Casino Dreams Coyhaique

Coyhaique, also Coihaique, might be a bit quieter than some of the other stops you’ve made on your Chilean holiday. Still a rather young city, it was founded only back in 1929. But if you’re looking for a bit of a getaway from the busier city life to get more in tune with nature, it might be an ideal place to unwind. Afternoons here could be spent hiking and fishing, and between June to September, even skiing. To see the indigenous flora and fauna, try the Coyhaique National Reserve. To learn a bit more about the history of the region, try Museo Regional de la Patagonia. There are a few pubs and night clubs in town to help fill your evenings, and of course, there's the casino, with its slots, cards and even bingo.

The casino might not offer as much as some of its ilk, but still perhaps enough to pass a few hours when you have that itch to scratch. There are 150 slot machines and video poker terminals as well as table games including blackjack, Caribbean poker, Go poker, big six, mini baccarat and craps. After trying your hand at cards and slots, there’s also a small bingo parlour. The casino runs occasional live entertainment so be sure to ask staff about what’s happening during your visit.

The Patagonia Dreams Hotel offers 40 rooms coming in standard deluxe, standard executive, and 2 bedroom deluxe suites. Each come with television, mini-bar, and internet access. The town is a bit sleepy, so be sure to ask staff here about any lesser-known attractions in the area or interesting areas of interest. Get recommendations on the best places nearby to grab meals or bars to frequent.

Dining

To find Chilean cuisine try one of the restaurants in town, or check out Casino de Bomberos. If you’re interested in sampling Mexican-inspired fare, there’s Café Confluencia which also has live entertainment. This could be a good time to be adventurous in trying some South American cuisine by picking a local eatery, chatting up locals and trying menu items you’ve never had before. Casino staff might be able to point you in the right direction or where the locals generally eat, especially if you’re being budget conscientious.

Attractions/NightLife

It might become apparent there isn’t a lot to do, especially seeing as one thing the town does have is bars. For 2 floors of late night dancing, head to Piel Roja. Upstairs is where you can really let loose, while in the circular downstairs bar, you can better socialize. There’s also 2 floors over at Pub Alkimia. For a bit of the Wild West, try Bar West Pub. When looking for live entertainment, there’s Pena Quilantal with its live folk music or Pub Z, a converted warehouse, also serving light fare and hosting local art exhibits. There’s a small nature reserve (the Coyhaique National Reserve) a few km out of town if you’d like to check out the indigenous flora and fauna, also with nature trails for hiking. A bit further out, but a relatively short drive of around 30 km, you can find skiing over at Centro de Ski El Fraile, between the months of June to September. To get a feel for the town, head to the Plaza de Armas (main square) or try the Museo Regional de la Patagonia.
