Le Passage Heliopolis

Heliopolis (city of the sun) is now an upscale suburb in Cairo, Egypt. The only remaining testament to this ancient city is the Temple of Ra-Atum obelisk. If there’s one thing Cairo has going for it, it is their ancient historical attractions, perhaps the two most common being the Great Sphinx and the Great Pyramids of Giza, the only remaining monuments of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. There’s plenty else to do here for the ambitious tourist, with the parks, museums, mosques and markets, and of course, the casino. Bring your camera and a good pair of shoes.

Gaming

The casino is actually rather light with its offerings. There’s a mere 10 gaming machines consisting of slots and video poker and an additional 5 table games of 3 blackjack and 2 American roulette wheels. Blackjack limits begin at $5 and cap at $500, while roulette starts at $1 and goes to $1500. Think of the casino not as the destination, but a nice little place to kick back to a bit of light gaming before heading back out on your whirlwind tour of the region. Sometimes a little time to get your bearings and relax is all you need.

Hotel/Accommodations

The recently renovated hotel has 415 rooms over 4 floors and has 4 restaurants on site, a bar, pool, a health club, sauna, steam room,, tennis courts and 7 conference rooms. Get to know your hotel staff in order to get the heads-up on where to go and what to do in the city. Ask about arranged tours, popular attractions, great eateries and hidden gems in the area. The hotel has a free shuttle bus service and is 10 minutes from the Cairo International Convention Centre and Fair Grounds.

Dining

Open 24 hours daily and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets is Orangerie Restaurant. If you prefer fine dining, there’s Azure, serving lunch and dinner. Dinners only can be had at Mei Shi Restaurant, while Il Giardino and Afandena Restaurant serve both lunches and dinners. The hotel provides 24 hour room service. When you’re out in the city, find your own quaint eatery serving up authentic Egyptian cuisine. Ask hotel and casino staff for recommendations on popular local venues.

Entertainment/Nightlife

There are plenty of day activities and attractions. If you enjoy the parks, the region is flush with them. Some popular ones include Al-Azhar Park, Hadiqat Al Orman, Hadiqat Al Azbakiya, Genenet El Asmak with its caves and aquariums and the Cairo Botanical Gardens. Great family outings include the Giza Zoo, the first and oldest on the African continent, the Pharaonic Village and Magic Land. For religious sites and structures there’s The Hanging Church, Al-Azhar Mosque and Mosque of Mohamed Ali Pasha. For museums try the Coptic Museum and the Egyptian Museum. If you’re interested in shopping head to the bazaar Khan Khalily. Other attractions include the Cairo Towers and Abdeen Palace. Don't forget to visit the Sphinx and the Giza pyramids.
