One thing Cairo has going for it is its unique historical curiosities. For example, on the Giza Plateau you can find the last remaining monuments of the 7 wonders of the ancient world, the Great Sphinx and the Great Pyramids of Giza. The Giza Zoo is not only the oldest, but the first zoo on the African continent. There are other great architectural pieces such as Abdeen Palace, the Cairo Towers and various mosques and churches. Throw in a wide selection of gardens and parks, and you have some busy afternoons ahead of you.

Gaming

The casino is light on its offerings with only 20 gaming machines consisting of slots and video poker and an additional 5 tables games. However, considering how much there is to do to fill your days with the mosques, museums, markets and monuments, sometimes what you really need is somewhere inside to kick back, relax and get your bearings. Try your luck at cards or slots and you may pick up a bit of pocket change to cover that bar bill when you head back out for the evening.

The Pyramisa Hotel is right in the heart of Cairo and close to just about everything you’re looking for. Rooms here come in standard, standard suite and deluxe suite and come equipped with air conditioning, cable tv, lanai or balcony and either pool, side or city view. There are a total of 270 deluxe rooms (pool view), 50 deluxe 1 bedroom suites (city or Nile view), 40 deluxe 2 bedroom suites (also city or Nile view), and 10 3 bedroom suites (city view). On site are a spa and health club, 2 outdoor pools and 4 restaurants. The hotel has wireless internet available and 24 room service. Dining

For a la carte dining and international buffets there’s Le Chateau or Le Jardin. For menu items consisting of various cuisines like Chinese, Italian and Indian, go to Free Mix. For light eats like sandwiches and pastries there’s Le Four. Tour into the city and find your own restaurants serving up authentic Egyptian cuisine or ask casino and hotel staff for recommendations on popular local eateries.

Entertainment/Nightlife

For live shows and dancing head over to Galaxy. Club music plays at Regens, also with live entertainment such as belly dancing. For a more laid back environment and a jazz background, there’s Piano Bar. For more music and light snacks, try elegant Café. For major city attractions, visit both the Great Sphinx and the Giza pyramids. For families, go to the Giza Zoo, Magic Land and the Pharaonic Village. If you’re interested in museums, there’s the Coptic Museum and the Egyptian Museum. Spend afternoons taking leisurely strolls through the parks like the Cairo Botanical Gardens, Al-Azhar Park or Genenet El Asmak with its spacious caves and fish aquariums. Religious sites include the Hanging Church, Mosque of Mohamed Ali Pasha and the Al-Azhar Mosque. When you’re looking for souvenirs, try Khan El Khalily, a local bazaar. Other attractions include the Cairo Opera House, Abdeen Palace and Cairo Tower.
