Casino de Fouras

Fouras is a commune in south-western France in the department of Charente-Maritime and the region of Poitou-Charentes. Locals are called Fourasins or Fourasines. History buffs will enjoy the area’s rich heritage. The town was the site of the ‘battle of the midges’ along with being the last city crossed by Napoleon I before his exile to St Helena. Historical sites to visit include Fort Fouras, a former castle with its semaphore (once the tower), now housing a museum, and Fort Enet, built back in 1809, used in the protection of the harbour. Also are La Redoute Aiguille and Fort LaPointe (or Fort Vasou), built in 1672. The region has long been a popular tourist destination of the wealthy.
