Casino de Hyeres

Hyeres is a French commune in the department of Var and the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur, located on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. The locals are called Hyerois. Be sure to explore some of the indigenous or exotic flora here. The city was one of the first attempts at acclimatization of new plants to the French Riveiera. Look for palms and cacti among others. The resort Hyeres les Palmiers is so named due to the some 7000 palms planted in town. Check out some of the various other small islands, combined, referred to as the Golden Isles as well as enjoying the waters and time on the beaches. Local festivals to keep your eyes peeled for include the Hyeres Festival Jazz, the Festival of French Music and European Heritage Days. Nearby parks include the Olbius Riquier, St Bernard Park, and St Clair Park. Attractions of note include the Castel Sainte-Claire and Denis Theatre. Head over to Castel Sainte-Claire, built back in the 19th century and was home to American writer Edith Wharton. Visit the archaeological site of Olbia, excavated in the 19th century and declared a historical monument in 1947. Spend quality time strolling through any of the 5 major local parks or hit the beaches for some sunning and swimming.
