Casino de La Roche Posay

La Roche-Posay is a commune in the centre-west of France, located in the department of Vienne and the region of Poitou-Charentes. There's a couple worthwhile attactions here, particularly the castles. Castle Valcreuse dates back to the 19th century. Castle Posay, dates from 1810 and is now occupied by the casino, so it's a good bet you'll have the opportunity to check it out. Another historical site is Notre Dame, classified a historical monument in 1907. The ruins of the Cisercian Abbey dates back to the 7th century and was founded by Baron de Preilly in 1151.

The restaurant L'Atelier Gourmand offers their 'formula of the market' on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays during lunchtime. Look for grilled dishes in Table Carousel, Fridays and Sundays from 7:30 pm until 10 pm, and Saturdays, noon to 2 pm, and 7:30 pm to 11 pm. For more dining options, look in town for establishments which catch your eye, where you can sample the best of authentic French cuisine.

Attractions/NightLife

There's night life to be found in the local bars and clubs, or drink back in the hotel or casino bars. Try L'Evasion for dancing, or find your own new favourite watering hole for drinks and mingling with locals. Visit the local castles Castle Valcreuse (19th century) or, now occupied by the casino, Castle Posay, dating back to 1810 and declared a historical monument in 1942. The dungeon is the only remnant of the old castle however. Visit various religious sites like Notre Dame (12th century), a historical monument since 1907, with its bas-reliefs dating back to 1685. There's also the ruins of the Cistercian Abbey, gong back to the 12th century, and founded by Baron de Preuilly.
