Casino de Luc sur Mer

Luc-sur-Mer is a French commune located in the department of Calvados and in the region of Basse-Normandie, south of the Bay of Seine and in the heart of the Cote de Nacre. The population is just over 3000 people. Spend afternoons strolling the seaside, admiring the cliffs of Luc-sur-Mer and visiting various attractions. Over in the area called ‘Breach Marais’, you can find the pier. In the municipal park museum ‘House of the Whale’ are the skeletal remains of a beached whale.

Dining

Dine in L’Aile, with its modern décor, open-concept kitchen and stunning sea-views, open Wednesday noon to Sunday evening, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Ask about their private dining area, ideal for large groups and corporate functions. Cuisine here is traditional. Other venues include La Fringale with its indoor and outdoor dining, Carambole (a creperie), L’Embroche with its French cuisine, and Bar le 4-21 which doubles as a restaurant.

Attractions/NightLife

After a session of slots, head to Bar Des Machines a Sous, serving your favourite drinks and providing views of the sea. Other bars include Bar le 4-21, Ouis Titi, Le Café de Douvres and Le Piano a Vins, each also serving food. When it’s time to head out dancing, look to El Che Guevara Café. During the day, head to the beach for some sunning, or to participate in water activities like wind surfing or sailing. Walk along the local pier or admire the cliffs of Luc-sur-Mer. Visit Maison de la Baleine (House of the Whale), the municipal park museum fashioned around the skeletal remains of a beached whale from 1885. For architecture, try the Cinema le Drakkar, dating back to 1931. Religious sites include the cemetery cross, going back as far as 1662, and the Church of St Quentin (19th century), with its inherited steeple dating back as early as the 12th century. Other attractions include the Menhir of Pierre de Luc and the old station of Caen Courseulles-line. If you’re in the area during the summer, watch for the Festival of Aerobatic, a military aircraft display over the sea, and annual event since 1997.
