At around a ¼ million people, Maseru is the capital city of Lesothos (and Maseru district) and lies on the Caledon River. There’s a few fun things to do here depending on which season you happen to be arriving in. Skiing is available during the winter. Head over to the slopes at Afri-Ski Resort. Off season, the mountains make for good hiking or trailing along on ponies. There’s also fishing and biking and a couple good attractions worth checking out. After you’re wiped out from all the outdoors, athletic-type activities, find some down-time in the casino where you can try your hand at slots.

Dining

For a variety of dishes, including vegetarian options, there’s Mohokare Restaurant, also with live entertainment on weekends. Ask about their buffets. Choose to dine outdoors by the pool if you visit Katse Terrace. If it’s just light eats you’re after there’s the Mohope Bar and Lounge. There are several various dining venues scattered throughout the city, on their own or in other hotels. Walk about choosing one of your own or ask around for suggestions on places popular with locals and tourists.

Attractions/NightLife

At the hotel, you can find all your favourite drinks in the Mohope Bar and Lounge, with its views overlooking the Caledon River. If you prefer your cocktails pool-side there’s Katse Terrace. There’s various activities you can participate in throughout and near the city, some contingent upon what season it happens to be. You can take in a round of golf over at the Maseru Golf Club. About an hour out there’s the Maluti Mountains with its hiking and pony treks. Fishing is also a good option. If it happens to be winter, there’s skiing over at the Afri-Ski Resort. Other attractions in the area worth checking out include the Sani Pass, Lancer’s Gap and the Katse Dam. For archaeological sites, try the Kome Cave Village. For something a bit more laid back you can always hang pool-side sipping cocktails. When it’s time to grab those souvenirs to bring back home, head over to the Lesotho Cooperative Handicrafts Center
