For venues serving authentic Mexican fare, walk around the city choosing your own new favourite places, or ask hotel and casino staff for recommendations on places that are popular with locals and tourists. Alternately, check along the waterfront for seafood plates, or grab quick eats from road-side stalls.

Attractions/NightLife

If you’re just interested in sipping cocktails and rubbing shoulders with the locals, try Bar Titos. During days, try one of the local museums like the Buque Canonero Guanajuato or the Agustin Lara House. Be sure to check out San Juan de Ulua Castle, open Tuesdays through Sundays, 9 am to 5:30 pm. The structure is the last fortress from the Spanish Empire and was once a prison as well. Ask about their tours. If you happen to be in Boca del Rio during the summer, watch for their two major festivals. Bocafest occurs during June while the Feast of Saint Ann occurs during July. Earlier in the year, during May, there’s the Ylang Ylang Regional Expo, with rodeo, cock fights, dancing and crafts for sale.
