Casino Palmas Cuernavaca

Cuernavaca, from the Nuahatl meaning ‘near the woods’, has been likened as the Beverley Hills of Mexico – big city lovers but living just outside Mexico City, 85 km away (about a 30 minute drive). The city has been coined the ‘City of Eternal Spring’ back in the 19th century by Alexander Humboldt due to its ideal weather. An attraction worth checking out is the Palacio de Cortes, east of the Morelos Garden, completed back in 1535. and built over an old pyramid base. This building has served as a residence, warehouse, jail, military barracks, state palace, and now today houses the Museo Regional Cuauhnahuac. Nearby there’s a handicraft market, great for souvenirs. After going here, and several other local attractions, pop into the casino for a bit of R and R.

Dining

Try a 4-course Mexican dinner at Las Iguanas Green’s. When you’d rather go for something a bit simpler like tacos, try along the Calle de los Tacos. A couple venues include Grano del Oro and Los Orientales. Try one of the two locations for La Princesa on Teopanzolco, or in the Plaza Cuernavaca. Other restaurants serving Mexican cuisine include the Las Mananitas, with its large garden and free-walking peacocks and Casa Hidalgo, For Italian, there’s Trattoria Marco Polo. For Yucatecan fare, there’s El Faisan. For French, try La Provence. Also, back at the hotel, there’s a restaurant on site.

Attractions/NightLife

Los Arcos is an open-air café with live music. For cheap beer, try La Bola, with live Mariachi music in the evenings. For clubs, try El Alebrije, Taizz and Barbazul. Enjoy live music and light eats in the art café Pimuco. Local festivals include the Feria de la Flor, held in May, the Feast of San Isidro Labrador (also in May), the Feast of San Antonio (June), the Feast of the Savior (August), the Feast of San Lorenzo (August), the Festival of the Assumption of Mary (August), and in September, the Festival of Nuestra Senora de los Milagros. Visit Salto de San Anton, a ravine and waterfall, El Castillito (the little castle), over near the Chapitel del Calvaario (a church built back in 1532), and Borda Garden, with its flora, artificial lake, fountains, restaurant and nightclub. Local museums include the Robert Brady Museum, the Museum of Traditional and Herbal Medicine, and Museo Muros. For more flora, try the Juarez and Morelos Gardens. For flora and fauna both there’s the Chapultepec Ecological Park. Other areas of interest include the Palace of Cortes, the Cuernavaca Cathedral, and Teopanzolco, an archaeological site.
