Casino Casa Grande

Escobedo (officially General Escobedo) is a city in Nuevo Leon, and also part of the Monterrey Metropolitan area. The population is about 300,000 people, so you shouldn’t have any problems finding dining options, activities and night life in this 205 square km area. Bring a camera as well as your best hiking boots. The mountains around the area have canyons and trails, deserts and forests, and if you’re inclined to hike, this would be a good time. There’s also mountain climbing and bungee jumping to be found for the more adventurous. If you prefer your fun indoors, explore some of the region’s culture and history by visiting one or all of the local museums.

There are no hotels on site, but not too far from the casino, you can find the Sheraton Ambassador Hotel. Dining

Be sure to sample some regional cuisine as well as everything else Mexican fare has to offer. Try machaca, shredded beef with scrambled eggs, tacos de trompo, smoky pork with pineapple, and frijoles charros, fire cooked beans, with meat and spices. Over in Fonda San Francisco you can try menu items like molito de hongos, chicken with mushroom mole and pavo en pipian de cacao, turkey with chocolate sauce and pumpkin seeds. For those of you who are vegetarians, try the beregena gratinada, eggplant with cheese and tomato, over in La Zanahoria. For menu items like tostadas and memelas, tortillas with black beans and cheese, try La Casa de Maiz. Italian classics like pizza, gnocchi and risotto are dished up in Iannilli.

Attractions/NightLife

When the sun goes down and you want to kick up your heels, try one of the local clubs like Kokoloco or Skizzo Electroclub. For more options, try around Barrio Antiguo. Watch for the Bella Via Festival, showcasing local and foreign artists. To best appreciate the local culture and history, visit one or all of the local museums. These include the Museo del Noreste, Horno3 (blast furnace #3, a steel museum), Museo del Vidrio, and Museo Regional de Nuevo Leon. Hike along the 36 km of trails in Parque Ecologico Chipique or stop and check out one of 174 species of butterflies floating about. Bring your camera for photos of, or trek along, the Sierra Madre Oriental Mountains. For more flora, try the La Estanzuela State Park. Find climbing at the El Potrero Climbing Area.
