Located in northern Mexico in the state of Nuevo Leon, and part of the Monterrey greater metro area, is the city of Guadalupe. While there’s plenty to do in Guadalupe itself, a short drive out of the city opens up even more attractions, dining and drinking options. A couple noteworthy attraction begin with the La Pinacoteca del Estado, which showcases the artistic history of of the state of Nuevo Leon, and Fundidora Park, located east of Monterrey, with its archaeological site, trails and lake, great for a relaxing afternoon out.

Dining

There’s plenty of authentic Mexican cuisine to be found, but be sure to sample some regional dishes as well. Try machaca, shredded beef and scrambled eggs, or tacos de trompo, smoky pork with pineapple and chilis. For pre-Hispanic inspired fare, there’s Fonda San Francisco. Menu items include molito de hongos (chicken and mushroom mole) and pavo en pipian de cacao (turkey with pumpkin seed and chocolate sauce). La Casa de Maiz has Mexican comfort foods like quesadilla, memelas and tostados. If you’re vegetarian, you’ll want La Zanahoria. Try the eggplant with tomato and cheese (beregena gratinada). Italian classics like risotto, gnocchi and pizza are found in Iannilli.

Attractions/NightLife

Try one of the local clubs or bars when evening comes, for a night out of drinks and dancing. Venues include El Garage, Kokoloco and Ananna Pop Bar, which can host up to 1500 people. For more options, try around Barrio Antiguo, flush with bars, clubs and live music. To enjoy a nice, relaxing day, head to Fundidora Park, with its hiking and jogging trails, artificial lake and children’s playground. If you have family, bring them to Parque Plaza Sesamo (Sesame Street Park). For culture and history of the area and state as a whole, you’ll want to visit La Pinacoteca del Estado, a museum about 1.5 miles from the city centre. When you tire of walking and exploring, and have had your fill of gambling, head back to the hotel and enjoy the whirlpool in your room, or sip drinks pool-side.
