Big Bola Casino - Tuxpan

Tuxpan (or more formally, Tuxpan de Rodriguez Cano) is a city in the Mexican state of Veracruz and has a population of around 80,000 (or about 135,000 if you count the surrounding area). Tuxpan comes from the Nuahatl words ‘tochtli’ (rabbit) and ‘pan’ (place) – the place of rabbits. The city lies on the Tuxpan River and is the nearest port after Mexico City which is why it’s sometimes referred to as Puerto de Tuxpan. Because of the nearby waters, you can participate in such activities as scuba-diving and fishing. Try around Isla de Lobos, or head to one of the local beaches, like Playa Norte, for the more mundane swimming and sunning. Being a port town, this is also a great time to sample seafood, Mexican-style. After checking out the various local attractions, head over to the casino for a session of gambling.

There’s ample venues where you can grab authentic Mexican cuisine. Try Restaurant Atracadero, a barge converted into a restaurant, with open-air dining. Over by the Parque Reforma, there’s Barra de Mariscos, with seafood menu items like shrimp and octopus. For international fare, there’s Los Girasoles, also with live music. When you’re looking for buffets, try Sr Mante.

Attractions/NightLife

Like most cities, there’s bars and clubs about when looking for night life. For beer and rubbing shoulders with the locals, head to Crudalia. For cocktails try Bar Los Mangos over at the Holiday Inn. The restaurant Los Girsasoles has live music on weekends. For swimming and sunning, try over at Blue Beach or Playa Norte. If you’d like to take in some fishing, or maybe scuba-diving, head over to the reefs in Isla de Lobos. Make a 2 day trip out of it by camping on the island. To soak up some regional history and culture, there’s the Museo de la Amistad Mexico-Cuba. Check our assorted memorabilia relating to Fidel Castro, Che Guevara and Jose Marti. When you just feel like relaxing, taking leisurely strolls, or even enjoying a picnic lunch, head over to Parque Reforma, steps from the hotel.
