Mermaid Casino and Swakopmund Hotel

German for ‘mouth of the Swakop’ Swakopmund lies on the coast of northwestern Namibia and situated in the Namib Desert and was founded back in 1892. You can find several things to do in this beach resort city. For architecture, check out German-colonial homes. For history of the region, there’s the Swakopmund Museum. When looking for fauna, try the National Marine Aquarium. There’s several bars, nightclubs and restaurants in the area too to help flesh out your days and evenings. There's also several hotels and of course, the casino for a bit of R and R.

Guests staying at the hotel can enjoy a complimentary breakfast and enjoy 24 hour room service. Choose to dine a la carte or buffet in Platform One. Breakfasts runs from 6:30 am until 10 am, lunches 12:30 to 2:30 and dinner from 6:30 pm until 10:30 pm. Open daily. This venue can seat 160 people. There are several restaurants throughout the city serving up both authentic Namibian cuisine as well as German-inspired fare. Ask hotel and casino staff for suggestions on nearby venues that are both popular with tourists and locals alike.

When looking for places to drink, there’s several from which to choose. Rafter’s Action Pub has drinks and dancing, as does O’Kelley’s, also with billiards. Captain’s Tavern Pub provides live music. Private Bar (a public venue) is popular with tourists. To check out some of the local marine fauna there’s the National Marine Aquarium. If funds permit, consider taking a local cruise. If you’re interested in the history of the region, there’s the Swakopmund Museum. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy nearby golf. Try the Rossmund Desert Golf Course. If you’re interested in local architecture, check out some of the early colonial Germanic buildings. Other local attractions include the Martin Luther steam locomotive, dating back to 1896, and the nearby camel farm. After visiting the desert, hang poolside or spoil yourself back in the hotel spa.
