Casino de Saint-Gilles

Reunion, previously Ile Bourbon, is a gorgeous island in the Indian Ocean and offers tourists and outdoor enthusiast some great views and activities, especially hiking along some of their 1000 km hiking trails. There’s also the beaches for sunning and swimming. If you’re in Saint Gilles Les Bain, check out some of the local attractions. To see some of the indigenous flora gathered in one place there’s Le Jardin d’Eden. For marine fauna, try the Aquarium de la Reunion. The biggest draw here is the beaches. Head over to Plage des Roches Niores or Plage de L’hermitage, great for snorkelling. After you wear yourself out from hiking and hitting the beaches, head on over to the casino.

The casino has a very lack-lustre selection of games – just 16 slots and video poker terminals, and a small handful of table games (2 blackjack and 4 roulette). Frankly, people really don’t come to the area for the casino, but for the beaches and exploration of the island. However, after all that walking around during the day, an hour indoors with some light gambling might be enough to catch your breath and get your bearings before heading back out.

Hotel/Accommodations

There are no hotels on site but you can find one as close as 0.4 km from the casino. The Alamanda Hotel has 70 rooms (38 1 dble beds, 32 single beds) and each come equipped with 26” LCD satellite tvs, air conditioning and terrace or balcony. Ask staff while staying here for tips and suggestions on what to see and where to go as well as recommendations for bars and restaurants popular with locals and tourists.

Dining

The Au K’Banon lies on beach and offers such menu items as grilled meats and fish. Be sure to ask about their lagoon-side breakfast. Dine on the seafront terrace at Paul et Virginie or try Chez Bobonne for fine dining. Reunion sees a lot of varied cuisine, such as French, Italian, Indian, Chinese and African, so tour the island looking for the venue which best suits your tastes and budget. Ask hotel and casino staff for suggestions on great nearby venues.

Attractions/NightLife

Enjoy live music while you dine beach-side at Coco Beach, or the seafront terrace of L’Acacia which also has a pool. If hip-hop music is your thing, there’s Chez Nous. For Latin music try La Villa Club. Check out the theme nights at Moulin du Tango, a dance club. The big draw here in Saint Gilles Les Bains are the beaches. Sun swim and snorkel at Plage des Roches Noires or Plage de L’hermitage. If funds permit, try sailing. Check out indigenous flora at Le Jardin d’Eden, and marine fauna at Aquarium de la Reunion. Spend time trekking the island with its 1000 km of hiking trails. Be sure to bring lots of film.
