Flamingo Hotel and Casino Resort

You can find the Flamingo Hotel and Casino Resort in Paramaribo (or Par’bo as it’s sometimes called), capital and largest city in Suriname. Outside of time spent on the gaming floor, there’s several other things you can do to occupy your time while visiting the city. Learn a bit about the history and culture of the area by visiting such attractions as the presidential palace, constructed in the 18th century, Fort Zeelandia, completed by the Dutch in 1667, or one of the museums such as the Numismatic Museum and the Stichting Surinaams Museum. If checking out the wildlife and gardens are your thing, you should try the Palmentium, with its royal palms, various birds and Capuchian monkeys.

For additional dining options, ask casino and hotel staff for suggestions on nearby eateries popular with both tourists and locals.

Entertainment/NightLife

To sit back and relax while having a drink, there’s the hotel, Tibiti Bar and Warana Bar. If it’s drinks and dancing both you’re after, try Club Touche or Starzz Disco. For live music, there’s Café Bar ‘t Vat. About 10 klicks out of town, there’s golf if you’re interested in taking in a few holes. To tour the city via bike, speak to the hotel about rentals. When you want to get a feel for the area’s culture and history, there’s several attractions worth checking out. Try Fort Zeelandia, the centre square with its statue of former prime minister Pengel, the Numismatic Museum and the Stichting Surinaams Museum. For religious sites, there’s the Dutch Israeli Synagogue or the Petrus and Paulus Cathedral. To see some of the local wildlife and flora, head to the gardens at the Palmentium. When it’s time to pick up a few souvenirs for back home, check out the Central Market or the Maroon Market.
