Cal Neva Resort Spa and Casino

The resort is a coveted getaway that has attracted the likes of Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, Marilyn Monroe and a number of celebrities. Frank Sinatra actually owned the lodge for a short time in the 1960’s. Originally constructed in 1929, the owner, Robert P. Sherman, used the lodge as a guesthouse. You can just imagine the secrets inside those walls. The views of Lake Tahoe are absolutely gorgeous and if you’re wondering what all this talk of Lake Tahoe is about, it’s because this resort is the only property that sits on two states. It's this spot where you can be in California and Nevada at the same time.

Gaming

In 2010, the resort announced the temporary closure of the casino. They hoped to reopen with new licensing but as of 2012 the casino floor is very limited with few Slots and Video Blackjack machines. The rest of the casino floor now houses a lounge and arcade. It’s a far cry from the lights and sounds that once filled the room. We can only hope that the casino area reopens fully and undergoes remodel.

Hotel/Accommodations

The resort offers guests cozy cabins and features 199 rooms in the hotel. The Guest Suites feature balconies for guests to take in the views and fresh air. The Tower Rooms offer the most scenic views of the Lake as compared to other accommodations in the area. Guests preferring a more rustic experience must consider on the cabins. Families are welcome and a variety of events may be hosted at the resort from parties or business meetings to weddings. Amenities include a spa, salon, tennis courts, gym, free Wi-Fi and daily maid service. Guests are welcome to bring their pets. There are loads of activities including kayaking and biking and boating.

Dining

The Lakeview Dining Rooms is a place that attracts locals as well as guests for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Much of the food comes from local farmers and vendors. There are daily special dishes including Tilapia, Frank’s Spaghetti and Meatballs, Balsamic Chicken, Lasagna, Seafood Fettuccini, Prime Rib and Mushroom Ravioli. The bar also offers good times with Happy Hour from 5pm to 8pm daily and Ladies Night at the Circle Bar where ladies get their first drink of the evening on the house starting at 4pm.

Entertainment/Nightlife

For a bit of nostalgia, take a secret tunnel tour. Tours take place on Wednesday through Sunday. Take a guided tour through the hiding places of Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra and many other Hollywood stars of the day. The tunnel was the place they went to get away from it all and have party in peace.
