California Hotel & Casino

Located in Downtown Las Vegas, The Cal opened its doors in 1975. Owned by Boyd Gaming, this hotel and casino has expanded quite a bit throughout the years. The California has strong ties to Hawaii. This connection was made when the owner, Sam Boyd reached out to the Hawaiian market in an attempt to draw in customers during a slump in casino traffic. Boyd offered deals on flights and a range of Hawaiian cuisine in an effort to attract players from the island. Today, the clientele is comprised of many islanders and the casino is often referred to as the ninth island.

Gaming

The casino floor is filled with more than 1,000 Slot games and Video Poker machines. There are 7 Table Games available including Blackjack, Caribbean Stud Poker, Craps, Keno, Let It Ride, Pai Gow, Poker and Roulette. Keno games are broadcast in the guest rooms. You may play up to 1,000 games on a ticket so you can go relax in your hotel room and check on your tickets at your leisure. Cal's Sports Book features all the major sporting events. Guests can sit back and relax or yell at the big screen televisions around the room. The Information Center provides regular information on bets while the Futures Board gives a preview of upcoming odds. The sportsbook is located on the mezzanine level and remains open up until the start of the last major daily sporting event but winning tickets may be redeemed 24/7.

Hotel/Accommodations

The California Hotel offers Deluxe Rooms and Deluxe Suites with an island theme. The Deluxe Rooms come standard with either one king sized bed or two queens. The Suites comes with a variety of perks including a wet bar and sitting area. All rooms are available in smoking or non-smoking and handicap accessible rooms are available upon request. Also, if a refrigerator is required for medical purposes, simply notify the hotel when booking your reservation and they will provide it. The essentials such as internet, cable and phone are also standard with all rooms. The island theme wouldn’t be complete without a pool. All guests have access to the beautiful rooftop pool area.

Dining

Redwood Bar and Grill offers an elegant dining experience. For a night of steak and lobster, this is the spot. The Market Street Cafe is a much more casual environment that serves up American classics around the clock. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Pasta Pirate is another steak and lobster joint but a bit less upscale than Redwood. The theme of the restaurant was inspired by an old cannery. Aloha Specialties speaks for itself. Enjoy a variety of island dishes served with those classic little umbrellas. Guests may dine in or carry out. California Club is the place to grab a quick snack or meal. American favorites and Asian dishes are served. They are located right next to the casino floor.

Entertainment/Nightlife

Three bars are located on site. Choose from The Main Street Bar, The San Francisco Pub or Dave’s Bar. Vegas in known for the entertainment and guests of this casino can take advantage of The Fremont Street Experience. Located in downtown Vegas outside of the Freemont Casino, this venue holds some of the most amazing concerts and events.
