Makasa Casino

Located on the southern bank of the Zambezi River at the western end of Victoria Falls is the town of Victoria Falls itself. While the falls actually fall within 2 countries (Zimbabwe and Zambia), Zimbabwe is probably the preferred side with their better view, selection of hotels and various attractions and activities. The national Park on the Zambia side is the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park while on the Zimbabwe side it’s the Victoria Falls National Park. There's plenty of wildlife in both parks or you can book a safari to maximize what you can see.

Gaming

The casino has a very modest selection with just 54 slot machines and video poker terminals and an additional 6 table games which are comprised of 3 roulette wheels and 3 blackjack tables. Guests are able to play slots beginning at 10 am while table games open at 8 pm. The air conditioned casino acts as a nice little respite out of the hot African sun and serves your favourite cocktails. A nice iced drink or 2 provided from their bar service while spinning could make for a rather pleasant afternoon, especially if a few healthy wins are in the cards. The casino also runs occasional contests so be sure to ask staff if any are running while you’re there.

Hotel/Accommodations

The hotel has 294 rooms catering to singles, couples and families. Rooms come in king, queen and king with bunk and come equipped with air conditioning and satellite tv. There are several amenities and facilities on site which include a swimming pool, beauty parlour, pharmacy, a supervised children’s play area, foreign exchange, shops, conference rooms, 4 bars and dining facilities. Guests can also enjoy 24 hour room service. Ask staff about guided tours and packed breakfasts and lunches made available for excursions.

Dining

The main restaurant is the Whitewaters Restaurant where dinners are entertained by live traditional African dancers and singers. For steaks and other barbecued menu items try Thundercloud Spur. Italian lunches and dinners are served at Panarottis with menu items like pizza and pastas. Dine poolside at Rapids Pool Bar & Restaurant, serving items like burgers and sandwiches. Alternatives include taking advantage of 24 room service or eating in town at any number of restaurants dishing up authentic African cuisine. When taking day trips, ask the hotel about their packed breakfasts and lunches.

Attractions/NightLife

For drinks there’s Rapids Pool Bar & Restaurant where you can enjoy your cocktails poolside, Quartermains Bar with its large screen tv playing sporting events, Wild Thing Action Bar, a night club, and The Pit back at the casino. There are several activities you can participate in in town such as bungee jumping, boating, white water rafting or even booking a cruise to best view the falls and the river. To soak up outdoor surroundings check out the national parks on either side of the falls. View local wildlife like warthogs, elephants, giraffes and rhinos or book a safari to maximize everything you can see. Consider taking the kids on an elephant ride. Once you’re all tuckered out, hang poolside back at the hotel.
