US Connecticut Online Casinos
Connecticut is one of the more interesting states because recent reports have indicated that they are considering the possibility of legalizing and regulating online gambling, which comes in addition to the fact that they are actively pursuing online lottery in the state.
For the time being...
...the laws that are currently on the books shall prevail, and based on those laws, we consider Connecticut a highly restrictive gambling state.
There is a statute that prohibits, “Professional gambling,” but the wording of the statute would not apply to online players, not even online advantage players, as it is meant to focus almost exclusively on operators.
Prohibited Gambling
Connecticut does have a law in place preventing unauthorized gambling unless the only participants in the gambling are, “Natural persons.” Therefore, in the most technical sense, online gambling could constitute a violation because, while the person playing is a natural person, the online casino is not.
Practically speaking, we can find no instance of anyone ever facing adverse legal consequences in the state of Connecticut for acting as a mere player online. There is no reason to believe that Connecticut law enforcement would have any interest in prosecuting a person based on that, even if they had the ability to do so.
In terms of arrests...
there have been busts for illegal poker rooms and sports betting.
The poker room arrests were made of the operators, not the players, and that was due to the fact that the operators acting as, “The House,”was taking a percentage of the poker pots commonly referred to as, “The Rake.” For individuals just to be playing poker without a rake in the State of Connecticut (provided there is no cheating) is perfectly within the law as it constitutes, “Natural Persons,” playing the game with nobody acting as the house.
The Online Sports Betting
Charges were made only against the operators and those involved with the operation, not against mere bettors. It is important to know that placing unauthorized wagers on sporting events actually is a violation of Federal law while other online casino games and poker is not. For those reasons, most online casinos do not offer any sportsbook services to U.S. players, though there are a few notable exceptions.
Mere players...
...at online casinos in the State of Connecticut have never been prosecuted, as far as we can tell, and for that reason, the majority of online casinos offer their services within the State of Connecticut. As with other states, these operators are located offshore and are outside of the legal reach of either Connecticut or the U.S. Government.
