There's two places you might have heard of Daredevil. One is the outstanding comic book series from Marvel comics about the visually impaired guy who relies on his inhumanly enhanced sense of hearing to battle the forces of evil and protect his struggling neighbourhood, the other was a painfully bad motion picture starring Ben Afleck, who for some reason has sucked in every move where he hasn't appeared opposite Matt Damon. Weird, that.
Luckily for us, the game from Cryptologic is based squarely on the former of these two option. I say again for the comfort of the purists: Cryptologic's adaptation is drawn from the Marvel comic book, not from the motion picture. This is not pretty, emo Daredevil. This is classic, butt-whuppin' Daredevil. Are we clear? Good. Let's move on.
With that cleared up, the game is awesome. The graphics are endlessly slick, in a very mature, cartooned style, with little animations that take over when you hit something. On the reels you can expect to see symbols representing most of Daredevil's usual arch enemies – Kingpin, Bullseye, Jester and co are all here, as well as his allies such as Elektra, and a random assortment of some cool weaponry such as ninja-style nunchuks and a couple of sais.
In terms of the actual game play, this is a five reel video slot game. If you want to increase your odds on each spin, you can activate up to nine different pay lines using handy controls you'll find at the bottom of the screen.
Daredevil himself is of course the Wild symbol. You will want to look out for him on the second and the fourth reel, because those are the only reels he shows up on, but when he does, he completes winning combinations like it's going out of style.
But, should you get three Daredevils poking their sightless heads out, then the bonus game launches. This is super cool because it's basically free cash. The reels go dark, and you basically keep revealing squares until you've matched 3. Match 3, and they turn into a number, which is the amount of cash that you've just pocketed.
Daredevil's smallest coin size is 5c, and it's biggest is $5. The top payout is 8,000, which at max bet is $40,000 – quite a sweet jackpot. But don't forget – this game also has three progressive jackpots attached to it that could trigger at any time.
The smallest seeds from just $50, the largest from $5,000, and there's a win every couple of hours, so really, it could happen to you just as easily as anyone else.
