Vikings are on the telly and internet, so it’s no wonder they are in the slots as well. This is by no means the first Vikings themed slot to come out, as the theme is quite popular in itself…

The theme is a mix of comics and cartoons with the gameplay features offering a fresh mix of functions. A pretty decent production from Relax Gaming by the looks of it.

Theme

The ice is breaking and the ships are ready to set sail. Erik The Red was a famous explorer, and equally famous slayer of men. No wonder then that the reels are flanked by the icy waters of Greenland.

The symbols are all themed, with all sorts of Viking equipment on the reels. The music mixes pompous battle tunes with medieval flutes, with the sound effects mostly adding thudding sounds as the symbols hit their spots. There are a few animations there as well, but these are quite limited in their scope.

Betting Options and Functions

The game offers quite a few settings to tweak. These pretty much just affect options like autoplay reel speed, or animations. All the twenty paylines are fixed on the five times four-reel setup. The prize combinations must occur on these reels and lines, starting from the leftmost reel.

Bets start from 0.10 coins per spins and go all the way to 100 coins per spin, with plenty of options in between. The wins are somewhat disappointing.

For high symbols:

You are looking at a range between seven and fifty times your line bet.

For medium and low symbols:

The range is between one and fifteen times the bet. Suffice to say, special features need to fire if you want to gain any significant wins here.

Features

Three to five scatters will result in eight free spins. These come with an EXTRA Wild indicator on top of each reel. Every time you land a scatter in any of the reels…

…it is counted in the indicator, and once the count hits four that reel will turn full of wilds. These wild will be locked for the duration of the spins.

For each locked wild you collect this way, you will also receive one extra free spin. It is quite clear then that the reason to spin the reels is to get to these free rounds. On each normal and free spins, the mystery stack is also active.

This means:

At the start of each spin one symbol is selected to become stacked; whenever the symbol shows up on any of the five reels it will fill all those reels with the same symbol.

Our Take

The real wins in this slot can be found in the free spins. Otherwise, the reels feel quite empty and devoid of wins. The locking wild reels and extra spins that come into play during the special feature make this game worthwhile if you can spin until then.
