Theme and Symbols

The setting is definitely in the wild west, with a wild cactus taking the role of Johnny Cash, throwing some added advice and banter on the reels. That banter has made him very much a wanted person, which shows up on the symbols. Other icons you’ll find on the reels include all sorts of stuff from the west, from cigars to tequila to sheriff’s badges. The sound effects add a layer of fast-action and fun.

Betting Options and Functions

Pretty normal setup with five reels and 20 paylines. Payouts go all the way to a thousand times your line bet, with variance set to medium. The latter means that you’re going to see a lot of smaller wins more often, with the big wins being a rare occasion…

...unfortunately, this game comes with a rather low RTP, standing just below 94%. It’s not that much below the industry average, but when there are plenty of other western slots with a higher RTP, it obviously counts.

Overall the game has a pretty nice spread for the high-symbol wins, several of them paying several hundred times your line bet.The smallest win isn’t too bad, being half of your total bet for the least-valuable three symbol combo.

Features

Three to five scatters will pay out mediocre wins, as their main function is to launch the bonus spins. The same three, four or five scatters are needed for that, though you always land the same ten bonus spins. More scatters during the feature means more spins.

During this special feature, the wilds take a bit of a different function. Normally they simply substitute for other symbols and then disappear, but here they become sticky, staying on their chosen position until the end of the special. This comes with the trade-off that the wilds do not show up on the first reel at all. Still, if the remaining reels are covered in wilds you’re bound to land big wins every time.

Our Take

BGaming’s Johnny Cash is a slightly comical slot. The aim is to either score bonus spins or aim for the big wins through five symbol combos. The low RTP is a drawback, but that doesn’t mean the game is unplayable. For a bit of fun, action and excitement this might very well be worth a few spins. Especially as you can set the bet pretty low.
