Jumping Jalapenos

When it comes to jalapenos, it always seems to have something to do with Mexico, even though these spicy treats are cherished in a lot of other places as well. Konami’s Jumpin’ Jalapenos continues the tradition with a Mexican themed hot slot. Originally published in 2009 the game has become somewhat of a novelty. It still offers a decent RTP and plenty of free spins, and as such is definitely calling for a spin or two.

Theme

Background and the reels are filled with somewhat standard graphics. This time the theme is Mexican, with jalapenos, tacos, cactuses, and guitars filling the reels. Music and sound effects are from the standard stock and do nothing to immerse the player into the game. Occasional animation with maracas wielding dancer hits the screen when the wilds are on the right reels. Unfortunately, the immersion doesn’t get deeper than this, though this doesn’t affect the gameplay in any negative way.

Betting Options and Functions

Konami seems to use thirty paylines as a standard, and so it is here too. You get to choose how many credits to bet per line, and there is also a separate selection on how much one credit is worth in your chosen denomination. Thirty to three hundred coins can be bet per spin, though this is up to the casino to decide.

Five wilds pay up to 500 credits. The high paying, or themed symbols, offer wins between 10 and 250 credits. The low-paying symbols, on the other hand, offer anything between 5 and 75 credits. As per usual, winning combinations require a minimum of three symbols and run from left to right. To win big, you really need to hit multiple win lines at once.

Features

The jalapeno symbol is the scatter, and three of them on the reels launch 12 free games. Additional games can be re-triggered, and these are then added to the running total. Free games are played with the same bet as the round that triggered them. The main feature during free games are reels full of wilds. Whenever a wild appears in any position, it is nudged upwards or downwards until it covers the whole reel. As you can imagine here is where the really big wins rest.

Our Take

Jumping Jalapenos don’t offer anything new to the genre. It runs on mobile and desktop devices just as fine, even if it is a bit aged slot. The RTP remains quite high, and the low bet level means there’s plenty to be had from this slot even with small bets. In the end, though, the high wins come from free spins and that is all you can bank on. On regular play, the game offers quite a high variance.
