The King of Monkeys has received a sequel, but is it worthy enough? The theme is the continuation of the same, that is to say, Asian influences for those who are not in the in with all the mythology of China. GameART has done a pretty good job with the graphics, as they should with a name like they have. How does the game fare otherwise, and is it worth trying with real money?
Theme
There is a cast of characters that are probably unknown to most western players. Don’t worry though, these symbols will soon become familiar as you spin the reels. All sorts of ancient artefacts line the reels, while gentle music creates some sort of Zen-like atmosphere to roll the reels in. The game could have used a few more animations, as right now the few that there are only the ones that show up when you win. This is a very specific theme and it’s done better than what you’ll find in most other slots.
Betting Options and Functions
Five reels with three symbol positions each and 25 paylines to travel through the screen. Nothing unusual here. The minimum bet is 0.25 coins per spin, or in other words, a cent per payline. This can be scaled up as a multiplication of the paylines, which are naturally all fixed.
The wins are from the high end of all paytables, topping at 2000 times your line bet for five wilds. The Monkey King himself returns your bet a thousandfold, whereas an assortment of jewellery and other goods deal out the smaller wins. Volatility, as you can guess, is from the high end. Might take a few spins to land any wins at all.
Features
Free spins are the main game here, and they can trigger both at random and when the correct symbols are on the screen. With the freespins, you get two independent reels, and from these, you gather both wins and the low-value symbols. Once you have gathered enough symbols the third reel and then a fourth reel will activate. If you manage to reach the final threshold the three last reels on all reelsets are turned into wilds. This is where the money is. The feature cannot be re-triggered, so all you have are the twelve free spins that you start with.
The game also has a gamble feature, which is the usual guess the card colour and win double or nothing.
Our Take
Though well done the game doesn’t really offer anything spectacular or out of the ordinary. The main goal in this slot is to hit the free spins bonus feature, and in there collect the necessary symbols to get the free spins really going. This might be worth the bet for some players who chase high wins, but others should give the game a few spins in demo mode before making a deposit at one of our suggested casinos.
