There’s no shortage of games when it comes to the luck of the Irish. There are enough leprechauns and rainbows with pots of gold to rival the ancient Egyptians or the gods of the Greeks. So what is it that Reflex Gaming is seeking to bring to the table with their Lucky Gems slot? At first look, not much at all.

Theme

A leprechaun, a rainbow, pots of gold, and the lucky gems. That’s pretty much what the theme is all about. There are a few animations to keep the game interesting, but these become quite repetitive after a while. The music and sound effects are what you’d expect from the theme, and these too could have used a bit more variety. All in all, if you have never played a game with this theme before you are still better off trying some other slot that does the job better, such as Lucky Leprechauns.

Betting Options and Functions

Volatility is set as medium-high, which means that mostly you are looking at reels empty of wins, with the occasional spin to keep you spinning, and with the one big win lurking somewhere beyond the rainbow. The playfield consists of five reels, each with three symbol positions. Through these travel ten paylines, all fixed in place.

Betting is done by simply selecting the total bet, with the usual range from pennies to hundreds of coins per spin. The game works perfectly on both mobile and desktop devices, even though it is a port from a cabinet machine. There’s not much in the way of setting here, all that is left to the player is to select the bet and spin the reels.

Features

The game is marketed as simple and easy to play, which pretty much means that there’s not much here in the way of features or special effects. This is a rather common issue with ported games: they might work in pubs, casinos, and other avenues, but that is a rather different market from online slots. The only two special features here are the Lucky Gem wilds, and the Leprechaun himself transforming into random symbols. This is really not enough in this day and age.

Our Take

You are far better off playing some other slot with the same theme. The wins are not really that enticing, there are no special features to speak off, the graphics and audio are from the olden days, and not in a good way. There are plenty of other slots with a similar theme and much better gameplay.
