Microgaming have been busy little beavers of late, releasing a raft of quality games. Octopays is a five reel online slot, due to be released in November 2012, offering stunning HD graphics, a range of quality features and an astounding 243 ways to win.
The slot includes one of the coolest looking baby octopuses around, plus a $4,000 maximum jackpot. From the outset it sounds impressive, we've taken a first look to see if this is the case.
Octopays Theme
Octopays is set beneath the murky ocean, in a spot where reef dwelling fish and creatures enjoy the rusting wreck which can be seen in the slots background. The reels use a fairly typical three icon per reel format, of which there are five. The unusual aspect comes by way of paylines because there aren't any as such. Microgaming have built the slot to use 243 win ways instead, which is epic when you think about it.
As this is an undersea themed slot you can expect to find various creatures and related paraphernalia on the reels. These icons include octopus, hammerhead sharks, treasure chests, anchors, divers helmets and a selection of traditional icons (9 to A).
Betting Options and More Functions
There's an excellent range of bets available to players. You can choose from 0.01, 0.05, 0.10, 0.20 and 0.50 coin denominations and use up to ten on each line. This means penny slot players are catered for and high rollers can push the envelope with bets up to $150 per play (everyone else should be able to find a suitable wager too).
Octopays Slot Features
The kraken is a legendary sea monster and just so happens to be the focus of the bonus round. When an octopus lands on second and fourth reels you will receive 12 free spins. During these spins you'll not only experience some awesome effects but will receive up to octopus icons as a 'gift' from the Kraken. These octopus icons stay in place acting as wilds during each free spin; needless to say this can ramp up wins considerably.
A tiny adorable squid like creature can appear on the middle reel. If this happens it can substitute for other icons to create wins twice the regular paytable value. Once these wilds have performed their duty they swim merrily away.

I actually think this is a quite cool game. I have played it a few times at Slotjoint casino and I have had a few wins over 100x bet so that is good. I think that design is a little old fashioned but it works with the game, I like it.

This is a cute game, I have played it several times but have not been lucky at all. I have heard it can payout but I myself have not experienced this yet. The base game is very dull and boring because practically you are playing without any wilds and without anything special and the graphics are not that good to endure something like that for a very long time. For a 243 ways game this is a catastrophy. The free spins are very worthy because there you have wilds on every reel...

Free spins can bring some good winnings but they are very hard to catch because the symbols appear on the reels 2 and 4 only. Good luck with that. No way, I am not happy with this game. Yes, monster pays, one in a life time. If you can afford to wait 400 spins for that.

Looks pretty good, graphics are smooth and clear. I must say that the background music seem to be a bit too relaxing and calming to the theme of this slot? Payments on the base game are super low and i was struggling to get any 5 of kinds, neither the free spins feature so maybe this slot needs them to be triggered before...

Microgaming have kinda gone a bit crazy these days with the 243 ways games, it seems thats nearly all they are interested in most of the time infact - Octopays is a good one though, not just another clone of Immortal Romance or Playboy etc - I would guess it predates those games significantly actually, but it still looks...

The best part is, as ever, the feature, where random wilds can be spread across the wheels by the Kraken. Monster pays are possible here, as you would expect from MG. Quality :)

Also I enjoyed a lot the Kraken bonus feature and I believe the profit chances here are bigger than another similar games, and think to reach this feature is not rare. Design seems common but don´t be fooled by its appearance because you may be missing out on something exciting.
