People at Big Time Gaming never stop to surprise us, and after their super successful Megaways mechanic, they came up with something new...
...the Megaclusters engine!
Star Clusters Megaclusters shows the symbols split into smaller versions of themselves, and the cascading wins feature kicks in.
The 4x4 grid is hurtling through a colourful wormhole at warp speed, and the screen is filled with sparkling jewels of different colours and sizes!
The main attraction is the bonus round, where the grid size increases to 8x8, and you can get plenty of extra spins.
The progressive gold star wild multiplier does not reset during the free spins, and it has no upper limit moreover, this medium to high variance title could win up to a whopping 23,000x your stake!
And What About The Theme?
Star Clusters Megaclusters is simple in terms of design.
The background is yellow with some faint animations, while symbols include an assortment of gemstones of various shapes and colours.
The reel set is eye catching thanks to the colourful selection of gems, as you’ll see yellow, purple, red, blue, green, orange and turquoise.
There is a star Wild symbol which replaces all symbols except the Gold Wild symbol.
Though visually the game is nothing much to look at, it focuses entirely on the Megaclusters game engine, and judging by the success of the Megaways mechanic, the visuals don’t really matter.
The developer deploys latest technology for all their titles, so this is a mobile game, as well as a tablet version and desktop naturally.
The psytrance soundtrack is layered with sample tributes to Pac Man, Street Fighter and Bonanza, and you really want a good stereo or a decent set of headphones to get the most out of this game.
Booting up the game brings on a 4x4 grid that appears to be set within some sort of classy looking retro device.
What About The Betting Options?
Firstly, are you ready for the arrival of a new reel mechanic on the release from Big Time Gaming?
The Megaclusters concept comes equipped with cascading symbols that divide into four smaller symbols after a win and, essentially, a 1x1 position turns into a 2x2 position. In the base game, this process continues until you’ve unlocked an 8x8 grid.
This is purely a cluster pays game, and reactions cause winning symbols to disappear and allow new icons to take their places. Therefore, you get more chances to win along with additional positions following payouts.
Winners occur when 5 matching symbols connect either vertically or horizontally.
Taking a look at the paytable reveals an assortment of gems of various hues – aqua, yellow, orange, green, blue, red, and purple.
Values range from 10x to 50x when 25+ symbols are involved in a cluster.
Playable from 20 p/c up to £/€20 per spin, Star Clusters Megaclusters is undoubtedly a volatile game, but not quite as volatile as some of the other offerings in the Big Time Gaming portfolio.
RTP, meanwhile, remains consistent at 96.54%, which is a figure most players can get behind.
What Special Features Can We Expect?
Both of the wilds can substitute for any regular pay symbol.
The difference is that when a Gold Wild is part of a cluster, a multiplier is applied to the win.
The multiplier starts at x1, rising by +1 whenever a Gold Wild is used in a cluster – with no limit. The multiplier resets again on each new spin unless free spins are triggered.
You won't see scatters here, but you will need 5 or more winning actions measured on the meter at each side of the grid, to trigger 2 free spins with 1 extra for each activity over the 5.
You also carry over any Gold Star Multiplier you have earned in the preceding triggering spin. This may not sound like many spins, but the grid will now be 8x8 with 64 tiles and, as before all winning ones divide into 4, thus you play on 64 to a maximum of 256 Megaclusters each spin.
Like with BTG's Opal Fruits title, you get a retrigger when the multiplier reaches 10x, only here it's the Gold Star Wild multiplier and when this happens you get 2 extra spins too, same if you get to 20x and so-on.
As with the base game, only 2 Gold Star Wilds can appear during any spin but if they both get to double figures and count in the same win, that's 100x multiplier for that pay!
Not bad at all!
What Is Our Take?
It’s always a huge deal when Aussie developer Big Time Gaming pulls back the curtain on a new release. You may want to pay extra attention, for this release might very well be the biggest thing since the introduction of Megaways.
Though the game comes across as a little basic at first, Star Clusters is one of those titles that grows on you.
The base game can be quite lucrative with potential for wins of up to 1,300x, but the biggest payouts will occur in the free spins game where there is a chance to pocket wins of up to 23,000 times your stake!

Star Clusters is one of those games that I have mixed feelings for. I do like the game design, but oftentimes it's hard to understand the payouts and winning combinations. Also, the free spins can be disappointing as it's hard to get more than just 2 or 3 spins. I've had a few big wins on this game but for the most part...

I like how it breaks down into all those tiny symbols. Never seen anything quite like it. I’m missing some more features though. Like, if it had that intersecting wilds feature like Reactoonz. That would be crazy!

I gave it another go ... And actually still sometimes am clueless why i dont make a hit ... But fair enough; I came to understand much more and also noticed how to get the big wins ... You really need to hit those freespins for it .. And dont be discouraged when you only hit 2 freespins; it can be 2 magical spins (thats what I experiences haha) .... But I also had a long long long streak of almost only deadspins ... That can be very frustrating aswell!!!

It looks different than the normal which makes it attractive in itself. I personally love BTG games but I feel that because of the difficulty in actually getting that retrigger a lot of people shall give up early and revolve back to games they know and trust .eg opal fruits.
