Theme and Symbols

A starry night, some serene music and a lot of magical gear make up the most of the theme here. It’s not entirely obvious what the castles have to do with the setting, but they do bring some immersion in medieval style. Symbols come in all sorts of potions, with the witch herself taking up a whole reel when she shows up. Spells themselves are not that abundant, only occasionally adding animated bursts of starspells on the reels.

Betting Options and Functions

Variance in this Slotmill game is set to low, which means that small wins hit the reels relatively often. The setting offers ten paylines on five reels, but some magic is used to make the wins come from both ways. 

This means that all three and four symbol combos need only touch the leftmost or rightmost reel to count for a win...five symbol combos naturally cover both reels, but only pay from one direction.

Wins range from half your total bet to 25 times your total bet, or 5 and 250 times your line bet.

The game has what is called a “Burst” feature. This is a somewhat interesting new take on autoplay. Instead of watching the reels spin, you simply click the burst, select your bet and how many spins will be played. You’ll then be taken to a new screen, which will simply show a countdown of spins and wins accumulated...it’s not as entertaining as spinning, but if you want to make lots of low-bet spins this will get you through them fast!

Features

Besides the win both ways system the game offers a single speciality, which turns out to be quite interesting and fitting for the variance level.

Everything is tied to the wizard, or witch, which lands on reels 2, 3 and 4. Every time the symbol lands it will expand to cover the entire reel, sticking to place and launching a respin.

If you land another wild the above repeats, with the addition of a win multiplier. A third wild does the same, also increasing the win multiplier to three.

Slotmill’s Star Spell is one of those slots that manage to create a very entertaining atmosphere, without going into too much detail. It keeps things simple and familiar, yet ensures that everything is done to the highest quality standards.
