Theme

One of the core themes of the Finnish Kalevala mythology is the Magic Mill, an artifact that produces endless goods and coins. Why this isn’t a more popular subject matter in coin mills of today is beyond me. In the background…

…you’ll find true wilderness, with music fit for the theme playing as the reels roll by. The basic symbols are still the basic ones - ten through ace. Higher value symbols are present as Väinämöinen, the raven, magical swords, and shields as well as the magic mill as a scatter.

Betting Options and Functions

You can choose either 10 or 20 active pay-lines with a bet value that seems to depend on the casino you’re playing at. Commonly the stake can be set between 0.10 and 12 coins, with a per bet line minimum of 0.01 and maximum of 0.60 coins. The pay-lines connect from left to right, with three to five symbols granting a win.

An added function for every base pay-line win is the gamble function. As with most other Gamomat slots, you’re looking at the ladder and card gamble.

The latter gives you a fifty-fifty chance of doubling or losing your money, whereas the ladder gives you plenty of chances to step up or go down. Sometimes simply collecting is the best bet though.

Features

The only feature in The Land of Heroes is the Magic Mill free spins. Three to five scatters simultaneously on the reels activate seven free games.

Further spins can be triggered during the feature with the same rules. Before the feature starts, the Magic Mill is given a spin, and it will turn up to four additional symbols into wilds!

Our Take

Gamomat is mostly known from their line of classic slots, so this one was quite a welcome breath of fresh air. The source material for the story behind it is not widely used either, though no doubt other producers will quickly steal the idea.

The game itself offers low to medium volatility with a nice bet level. Though the slot is not packed with features it certainly offers value for money, at least for a few spins.
