Stats released on the grounds of operators’ regulatory returns

A new report was released by the UK Gambling Commission covering the facts and figures for 1 April 2009 to 31 March 2010 on activity in the arcade, betting, bingo, casino and lotteries sectors plus data on gaming machines.

The report includes comparative figures for the 2008/09 financial year, and the stats are based on regulatory returns completed by operators. Apart from this, the Commission also announced that it is publishing its standard six-monthly supplement on betting integrity activity.

Key Facts from the Remote Gambling Sector:

- An 18 percent rise in the number of operators licensed by the Commission at 31 March 2010 to 432 (March 2009: 366), mostly due to society lotteries obtaining remote operating licenses (up 92 percent).

- Growth continues in the British remote market, but as regulated by the Commission, the market has noted a drop in Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) (- 11 percent), in number of employees within the sector (-3 percent), in the number of active accounts (-21 percent) and in the number of new player registrations (-14 percent). But there has been an increase in the amount wagered on remote gambling (excluding betting exchanges as Commission does not obtain turnover data), just like the value of funds held in player accounts (2 percent).
