Update: Gov. Christie Decides Against Online Gambling in New Jersey

Legal and constitutional issues a reason for concern, claims Christie

All the high hopes that New Jersey will be the first US state to legalize intrastate online gambling were dashed on Mar. 3 when the state Governor Chris Christie decided to veto the proposal, reportedly due to legal and constitutional concerns.

This draft bill, authored by State Senator Ray Lesniak, has literally run through the State Senate and Assembly, enjoying great support. It has arrived to Gov. Christie’s office on January 10th this year, and it took him until mere hours before the 45-day deadline expired to make up his mind about this strongly backed proposal.

However, Senator Lesniak doesn’t seem to be lacking hope that the proposal will be passed at some point, as he expressed belief that the bill could be "tweaked" to meet the Governors requirements.
