Back Are Spanish Gambling Reforms Close At Hand?

Only European Commission’s approval needed

According to the latest report by trade association AEDAPI, the Spanish gambling act, which was approved by the Congress of Deputies last month, was presented in the official Government Gazette on 28 May 2011. As for the act’s specific regulations, those will be defined by the Spanish General Directorate of Gaming while it awaits for the European Commission’s approval.

It was specified that "... the text lays the groundwork for the creation of a tax rate for gambling houses (25% over revenues for the most part), a licensing system based on administrative licenses and a system transition for operators on advertising, sponsorships and penalties. Furthermore, regulation will establish a number of safeguards to protect minors and people at risk".
