Back Update: New Online Gambling Arrests in Indonesia

The serious crackdown on illegal online gambling in Indonesia continued this week when the Jakarta police arrested two men for allegedly gambling and operating online gambling websites.

Jakarta Police flying squad chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Herry Heryawan said on the occasion: “We arrested two suspects, Fran Diko, known as Asen, and Joeng Hock, alias Apen, on September 14 in Tambora, West Jakarta,” adding that that both men are online gamblers who have also operated three online soccer gambling websites for over a year.

The operation functioned in the following way: punters were asked to open accounts o the websites and transfer money to the suspects’ bank accounts to begin wagering. In the action, the authorities also seized three laptops, bank account books, two ATM cards and three cellular phones, all of which will serve as evidence against the arrested persons.

The two are charged with Article 303 of the Criminal Code on gambling,” Herry added.
