Experienced robbers broke into a tavern in Illinois and stole $5,000 from state-licensed video poker machines according to the Jersey County Sheriff Mark Kallal.
The sheriff also said the burglars were also smart enough to sever the wires that connect the machines to the Illinois State Gaming Board.
It all took place very quickly as they got in, snatched the money and got out. Only an experienced burglar would have been able to carry out a robbery of this kind in such a short amount of time. They must have had some experience with getting into gaming machines.
"They cut lines to the State Gaming Board and pried open the money containers without tearing up the machine," Kallal said.
Cutting the lines would have alerted the Illinois Gaming Board of the incident. A spokesperson for the Gaming Board was unable to provide any information at this time.
Kallal said that employees reported to worked Monday morning only to find that the machines had been messed with. They immediately contacted police.
The burglars accessed the building through a door and a window in the back, Kallal said.
At this time the sheriff said that there aren’t any suspects and citizens are encouraged to contact police if they have any information.
