Back Betfred Extends Sportradar Deal to Upgrade Retail Tech

Betfred has confirmed an expanded and extended technology agreement with Sportradar, reinforcing a partnership that has developed over more than ten years. Announced on Wednesday 4 February 2026, the updated deal focuses on upgrading the retail platform technology used across Betfred’s 1,300 betting shops throughout the United Kingdom.

The agreement introduces an additional multi-year scope of work that places Sportradar in charge of enhancing the systems that support Betfred’s high street operations. The updated platform will underpin betting activity at retail level, with the stated aim of ensuring a sustainable and engaging experience for customers visiting physical locations.

Retail platform upgrades across UK shops

As part of the revised arrangement, Sportradar will deploy its future-ready retail platform to improve the speed and reliability of Betfred’s shop-based services. The technology is designed to support rapid transaction handling while maintaining effective risk management processes. This is particularly relevant during peak sporting moments, when betting volumes rise sharply.

The platform allows Betfred to manage significant data traffic during major sporting events and adjust capacity in real time as bets are placed. This scalability ensures that customers can continue placing wagers regardless of how popular or heavily bet an event becomes. According to the announcement, this capability plays a central role in maintaining consistent shop performance during high-demand periods.

Ongoing development and regulatory focus

Beyond the initial upgrade, the agreement assigns Sportradar responsibility for continuous improvements to the retail platform. These updates aim to maintain operational standards while supporting compliance with local regulatory requirements. The technical structure also enables Betfred to integrate additional Sportradar products and services over time, expanding the in-shop offering as new solutions become available.

The framework is intended to support a modern retail betting environment, allowing Betfred to introduce updated features while keeping systems aligned with regulatory expectations. This approach reflects the increased scrutiny placed on high street betting operations and the need for reliable technology that supports compliance alongside customer engagement.

Duncan McDonald, Head of Corporate and Retail Support at Betfred, commented on the extended partnership: “This agreement re-affirms our joint commitment to one another, to develop new products and features that enhance our customer offerings. It future proofs our retail business and secures our partnership with Betfred’s in house technology team and Sportradar for years to come.”

Supporting long-term retail strategy

Sportradar highlighted the role of technology in supporting Betfred’s longer-term objectives within a competitive retail betting environment. Paolo Personeni, EVP, Managed Betting Services at Sportradar, addressed the importance of platform capability in the current market, stating: “In today’s hyper-competitive marketplace Sportradar is well positioned to help Betfred achieve its long-term growth objectives. With high street operations closely watched, the technological capabilities powering the Sportradar Retail Platform will allow Betfred to deliver a sustainable and long-term retail offering that engages today’s demanding sports bettors.”

The expanded agreement positions technology as a central component of Betfred’s retail strategy, with a focus on performance, compliance, and scalability. By extending its collaboration with Sportradar, Betfred aims to maintain a stable presence on the UK high street while adapting its shop-based operations to evolving customer expectations and regulatory demands.
