Betsson Rebrands Oranje and Kroon Casino Platforms

Betsson AB recently announced its plan to rebrand Dutch gaming sites – Oranje and Kroon. The operator makes this step following a penalty from a native regulator.

Following the bit of hot water, Betsson made the choice to rebrand its Dutch betting platforms, which it purchased in 2014 from Malta-regulated firms, and provide them with a new identity. From now on, Kroon casino will operate under Casino Winner name, while Oranje will work as Loyal Casino. While Kroon has already made the switch, Oranje has yet to do so, though it is expected to sometime this month.

The rebranded Kroon is now live as Casino Winner, a move that went into effect this past April 24. Customers who visit the site can take advantage of the celebration bonus for possible inconveniences.

Background

The Netherlands Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) authority issued a €300k fine on Betsson Corona Ltd. As a result, the two sites have been accused to allow customers to bet via the sites without KSA authorization.

Betsson decided to appeal the fine, stating that Dutch platforms complied with local gambling laws. It insisted on the absence of relevant EU gambling legislation in the country and remained the strict opponent of Dutch gambling regulation. As stated, KSA imposed fines to operators which didn’t have the opportunity to obtain a license in the local market.

Netherlands Legislation

The Netherlands has recently approved new online gambling legislation. In the next period, we can wait for KSA authority to invite international casino operators to apply for a local license. The first operators will probably receive an invitation in mid-2020, while “cowboys” (which ignored KSA edicts) have to wait two more years.

It is still unknown whether the operator reformation of casino sites will reduce the stigma connected to Dutch casino brands. We expect clear results of rebranding efforts soon. The company has just released the financial report for the first quarter of 2019. We are waiting for the official statement very soon.
