Back Carson Wentz is Still Recovering from Season Ending Injury

The Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback, Carson Wentz, is still recovering from a stress fracture in his back that he suffered during the 2018 - 2019 NFL season. Wentz was placed on the injury report last October, but the stress fracture was actually discovered during a scan last December. It seems that this injury is taking longer to heal than expected. He has recently been cleared for light football activity, and he hopes to be able to participate in the Eagle’s OTA’s which begin this May.

Philadelphia really needs Wentz to come back strong and healthy as they let their great back up quarterback, Nick Foles, leave to join the Jacksonville Jaguars during offseason. Wentz is an excellent quarterback when healthy, but injuries have plagued his career ever since he started playing in the NFL with the Eagles.

Records:

Although he has only played professional football for three seasons, he holds many passing records for the Philadelphia Eagles. In 2017 Wentz recorded the most passing touchdowns for the team in a single season with 33 TD throws, and he only played 13 games that year. The Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl in 2017 with the amazing contributions from Foles.

Wentz holds the franchise record for the most pass completions in a season, having completed 379 passes in 2016. He also has on ongoing franchise record of 19 consecutive games with a touchdown pass. He holds the NFL record for most pass completion for a rookie (379) as well as the most completions through his first 24 career NFL games with 540.

Reaction:

On his recover, the QB commented...

"It's still getting there. It's still getting there. Some of this stuff just takes time, but that's not really the main concern. It's just kind of how I feel, and I feel pretty good with where I'm at."

When asked about making it back for the Eagle’s OTA’s this spring he added, "That's the goal, but there really is no timetable, no rush. But I feel good with the progression I've been on. Right now we're kind of taking it week by week. I'm throwing some, I'm running some and just kind of taking it week by week, and I feel good."

"Obviously a knee injury rehab is aggressive and it's not fun for anybody. A back injury is not fun either, but it's a different thing... I definitely feel better where I'm at [compared with last offseason] both physically and mentally, and I'm really excited. Feels like the first day of school today a little bit. It's exciting."

When healthy, Wentz is considered to be one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the league, but he has missed big time playoff games in his first three seasons of his NFL career. It will be interesting to see how he plays after a major back and knee injury. Hopefully he can remain healthy during his 2019 – 2020 campaign for the Philadelphia Eagles as he is a fun QB to watch work the field.
