Back The Senses

Let's give three cheers for the senses.

All gamblers whether they play craps, baccarat, the slots, the horses, bet on sports or play poker owe a debt of gratitude to the senses.

Each time you walk into a casino, your senses kick into gear overtime as you separate and fathom out the games you will play and the strategy you will use.

The Eyes

I love my eyes and appreciate how they work in leading me to where I go and the places I need to avoid.

They let me determine where I will sit and how I will play the first hand. And if there are any beautiful women in the room, the eyes will work t determine who they are and where they are sitting.

The Mouth

This is another of my senses that I appreciate. It gives me rapport with the dealers and the other players. I can take the other players' minds off the game with a joke or comment. And I use it to control and win the pot.

Mute

Some players never talk. I think that is a big mistake. You can still keep a poker face while talking. It will prove to the other players that you are human and will give you added stature in the game that may produce positive results later.

The Ears

Listening is an asset that is underestimated by the average player. Not by me. I suffer from considerable hearing loss caused, I believe, by crawling too close to an artillery piece while on bivouac while going through military basic training at Ft. Ord, CA.

Take care of your ears. That way you won't have to ask people to repeat themselves. You can also watch television without offending others by turning up the volume on the TV set.

The Nose

The scent will help you sniff out trouble at the table. It also leads me to desirable destinations when I am in a bakery or winery.

Now I probably wouldn't want to have a nose like Jimmy Durante, eyes like Eddie Cantor or ears as big as Clark Gable's. They were exceptions to the expectations of normalcy.

When you gamble, use your senses and use them well. That is why they were given to you and nobody likes to blow a sure thing.
