Back Elk Grove Casino Close to Realization; Anti-Gambling Group ’Stand Up for California’ Opposes

Elk Grove casino in California has come acroos a lot of obstacles recently. The Wilton Rancheria tribe has been making significant efforts to receive approval for the casino project. Several opposition groups were firmly against the idea of the Elk Grove project. Starting from the beginning of the year, the entire idea is becoming more realistic and Tribe is looking to push the construction over the next period. However, another obstacle is on the way - anti-gambling group Stand Up for California – which is looking to hinder the project.

Details

According to the Sacramento Bee report, Tribe has appeared as the winner and the anti-gambling group should step away.

A District of Columbia (DC) judge, Trevor McFadden, has just allowed Wilton Rancheria tribe to continue with casino plan. According to the judge's words, Stand Up for California's attempt to impede the construction of the casino was “misguided and without merit“. Other judges had the same opinion on the case so they threw all group’s arguments.

About Elk Grove Casino

It is still to be seen whether Stand Up Group will standstill after the recent court decision. Regarding the present situation, the Wilton Rancheria tribe can continue with further plans for Elk Grove location. The upcoming casino property will be built in cooperation with Boyd Gaming. Both entities have purchased about 36 acres in the city and the whole project will cost about $500 million.

Apart from this project. Wilton Rancheria tribe and Boyd Gaming are working on additional investments. Both companies plan to invest $186 million in the local economy over the next 20 years. Money will be distributed for road construction, public service departments, and schools.

Commenting on the court's decision, Chairman of the Wilton Rancheria tribe, Raymond Hitchcock said:

“We are gratified by the judge’s ruling to decisively reject dishonest arguments put forth by well-funded special interest groups that have tried at every turn to stop our project. We will continue to move ahead with our plans to build the resort and casino.”

It is hard to expect any progress until the end of the year. After repeated attempts to block the project, the Wilton Rancheria tribe and Boyd Gaming should count on delays. Once the project starts, it will open employment opportunities for 1,600 construction workers, 1700 permanent and 3000 additional staff positions.
