Evolution Expands as Alberta Opens iGaming Market

Evolution has expanded its presence in Alberta following the province's launch of a regulated commercial online gaming market, which replaces the former single-operator model with a competitive framework for licensed private operators.

The company has supplied Live Casino games and online slots through the government-run Play Alberta platform since 2021. Under the new system, Evolution will provide its Live Casino games, game shows, First Person titles and online slots through agreements with licensed commercial operators, giving more players access to its portfolio.

The market's opening gives Evolution access to a broader commercial customer base than was possible under Alberta's previous model, where regulated online gaming was available exclusively through Play Alberta. The company will now supply its content through multiple licensed operators as they enter the province's newly regulated marketplace.

The company said the expansion reflects its strategy of supporting newly regulated jurisdictions while continuing to grow its North American footprint.

Alberta Launches Competitive Online Gaming Market

Alberta officially opened its commercial iGaming market on July 13, becoming the second Canadian province after Ontario to adopt a regulated multi-operator model. The launch included 22 approved online gambling websites alongside the existing Play Alberta platform.

More than 50 online casino and sportsbook brands had already received approval before launch, along with almost 60 gaming systems providers and 14 iGaming platform providers. Evolution joined suppliers including Aristocrat Interactive, IGT PlayDigital, Pragmatic Play, Light & Wonder and Inspired Entertainment in supporting the expanded market.

Player Protection Remains Central

Alberta iGaming Corporation manages the commercial market, while Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis regulates participating operators.

Licensed operators must verify player ages, provide deposit and time limits, offer self-exclusion tools and respond when systems identify signs of high-risk gambling.
