Gaming Corps has entered a partnership with PlayWin that will bring retired NHL stars into new casino and gaming titles, with the collaboration targeting regulated markets in North America and the Nordics.
The Sweden-based, publicly listed game developer will gain access to the NHL Alumni Association licence through PlayWin. The agreement covers a roster of more than 1,000 former NHL players, giving Gaming Corps a substantial collection of recognised hockey personalities for future content.
Two Hockey Titles Planned
The first stage of the agreement will produce two games. One will take the form of a hockey shootout title, while the other will be a casino slot. Both will draw on the careers and identities of well-known former players.
Gaming Corps will apply its experience in premium slots and non-traditional casino games to PlayWin’s sports properties. The companies said the titles will be developed for regulated jurisdictions, with North America and the Nordic region identified as key markets.
The deal adds another sports-focused element to Gaming Corps’ existing portfolio. For PlayWin, it provides a route to use its licensed sporting personalities in digital gaming formats.
PlayWin develops and commercialises entertainment products built around premium sports intellectual property. Its agreements include the NHL Alumni Association, which gives the company access to more than 1,000 retired players. It also controls rights involving former stars from basketball and baseball, leaving scope for the relationship with Gaming Corps to extend into other sports.
Sports Licences Drive Collaboration
The companies said their aim is to create digital experiences based on memorable stages of athletes’ careers. The NHL agreement will allow fans to encounter familiar hockey figures through gaming products rather than traditional sports formats.
Gaming Corps CEO Juha Kauppinen said the partnership gives the developer access to high-profile intellectual property while highlighting its existing capabilities.
“Securing access to intellectual property of this calibre is something extra special. Sports legends are among the strongest brands in global entertainment, and together with PlayWin we have the opportunity to create something genuinely different for the casino industry. I’d like to thank Manny and the entire PlayWin team for choosing Gaming Corps as their development partner and for the confidence they’ve shown in our team. With our expanding portfolio of premium slots and non-traditional games, we believe we’re uniquely positioned to turn these iconic athletes into engaging gaming experiences for players across both North America and the Nordics.”
PlayWin CEO Manny Bains pointed to Gaming Corps’ work across slots and non-traditional games as a reason for the partnership.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Gaming Corps on this. They have over time built an impressive portfolio of both innovative non-traditional games and premium slots, making them a perfect partner for us. Together we’re revolutionizing the sports and entertainment gaming space, giving fans the chance to experience their favorite legends the way they remember them best, at the absolute peak of their game.”
The initial NHL projects will therefore serve as the first products under the agreement, while PlayWin’s wider sports rights could provide opportunities for additional collaborations.

More than 1,000 retired players is a pretty sizeable roster to build games around. I’m curious to see how those familiar hockey names translate into a casino slot and shootout game.
