Everything is ready for the Golden Mesa Casino opening scheduled for September 12th. The Oklahoma-located Shawnee Tribe venue will include about 600 electronic machines and six table games. Customers wll also enjoy a dedicated shopping and dining area as well as entertainment content.
Reactions
Commenting on the opportunity, Shawnee Development LLC president, Chris Floyd, said:
"I think why they are excited and why we see this as a great opportunity for everyone involved is because it’s the first of it’s kind, top shelf, entertainment venue for the Panhandle."
The brand-new casino venue is estimated to have a $36-million economic impact on Oklahoma with 175 jobs for residents.
Floyd noted:
"We are going to bring visitors from all over that are going to come here. They are going to be entertained here at our facility and they are also going to be staying overnight and shopping and eating at the local restaurants, and bringing a new economy we believe to this area."
Additional Notes
Golden Mesa Casino is going to be something new for Oklahoma state but also for the Shawnee Tribe. As soon as it received tribal approval, Shawnee was ready to work on the casino complex.
Board member at Shawnee Development LLC, Greg Pitcher, observed:
“For the first time, it will allow us to be self-sufficient and not have to depend on others and other governments."
He added:
"It really was kind of a long shot and it took a lot of years to do it and perfect it, but with the help of Global Gaming and the Chickasaw Nation we were able to finance it, get the job done, and we are looking forward to the benefits that our tribal members will have from that“.
The tribe is focused on helping young members in dealing with issues during the twilight years.
About the Tribe
Shawnee is one of three recognized tribes in Oklahoma beside Absentee-Shawnee Tribe of Indians and the Eastern Shawnee Tribe. It received separate status in 2000 when the American Congress enacted Public Law legislation 106-568. The Act was signed by President Clinton on December 28, 2000.
Shawnee Tribe Development Corporation is a special division of Tribal government founded in 2001 to work on economic development of Shawnee Tribe. At the moment, Greg Pitcher is chairman of Shawnee Corporation LLC and responding partner regarding economic development requests.
