In an industry constantly pushing the envelope, Bitblox is setting a new standard by blending cryptocurrency and gaming innovation to create a unique player experience. At the helm is CEO Brandt Page, who envisions Bitblox as more than just another game provider. With a focus on crypto prediction games, Bitblox is reshaping the iGaming landscape by introducing fast-paced, skill-based betting experiences that appeal to tech-savvy, crypto-aware audiences.
In this exclusive interview with LCB, Page shares the inspiration behind Bitblox’s bold approach, the challenges and insights gained from pioneering a new gaming vertical, and how the company aims to engage diverse audiences, from seasoned casino players to curious newcomers.
Q: Bitblox was founded with the idea of disrupting the online gaming space. Can you share the inspiration behind focusing on crypto prediction games, and how did this concept evolve from your initial vision?
I think it’s quite simple really – we wanted to bring something entirely new to the table for players. Now I know you’re probably thinking “isn’t that what every new software supplier says when they launch?”, but at Bitblox, this philosophy genuinely does run a little deeper.
We’re not looking to provide a fresh twist on a tried and tested vertical like slots but are instead focused on creating an entirely new iGaming experience in the form of cryptocurrency price prediction games. Since committing to that initial vision, we’ve looked at market data and player feedback to further refine our product and now offer lightning-quick games that appeal to a Gen Z/Millennial audience as well as more light-hearted titles for casual users.
Q: You’ve previously mentioned that Bitblox is creating a new vertical by combining games of skill and chance. How do you think this unique blend will appeal to both traditional casino players and newer, crypto-savvy audiences?
It’s still early days for us and we’ll need more data before we can draw any concrete conclusions, but my hypothesis is that players will approach our titles in one of two main ways.
On the one hand, you’ll have the traditional casino players who’ll look at a title like BitSlap and treat it more like a classic RNG game. They won’t necessarily be betting on what they think will happen in the Bitcoin market but could simply be backing a character they like or sticking to a pattern they’ve chosen to use, so there’s appeal for players with no previous knowledge of crypto.
On the other hand, those who are familiar with Bitcoin and its price trajectory will enjoy following the chart and trying to pick the next 20-second movement. In this way, they can treat the game more like they’re trading on a financial prediction market and plan their predictions accordingly.
Q: Your games, such as "Up or Down?" and "3 in a Row," are centred around predicting Bitcoin price movements, which are inherently volatile. Given this volatility, how do you design these games to remain consistently engaging for players while also ensuring that the outcomes are fair and transparent? What measures do you take to balance the excitement of real-time crypto fluctuations with responsible gaming practices?
Honestly, I think this inherent volatility is part of the reason that our games are as engaging as they are! When we first launched Up or Down? a lot of the feedback that we got suggested a 60-second betting interval was too long and that players wanted something faster – and this is what ultimately led us to developing Up or Down? Turbo.
That said, I take your point about the need for fairness and transparency, and we’ve really worked hard to ensure all of our releases can provide this. The prices that we use in our games all come from an on-chain oracle that’s comprised of data from multiple sources, meaning it’s very hard for anyone to manipulate the price of Bitcoin.
With 3 in a Row, we’ve basically combined the feel of a slot game with the betting functionality of an accumulator to give players a really immersive experience in Bitcoin price predictions. You go to the bet builder page and you can select three things, but only one of those things has to come in for you to win your bet. I think that combination is going to be quite a powerful thing for both players and operators and I really believe it’s going to be a big title for us when we get it out there.
Q: With the rise of crash games and other innovative, fast-paced formats, how do you see Bitblox’s crypto prediction games fitting into the broader iGaming landscape? What makes them stand out?
While we know that fast-paced formats generally hold more appeal to the younger, tech-savvy generation of iGaming enthusiasts that are now coming through, they remain a notoriously difficult demographic to engage with.
Our hope is that Bitblox’s Bitcoin-based price prediction games will appeal to this generation’s growing interest in crypto, while also offering a genuine skill component that they can attempt to use to their advantage if they’re so inclined. I think the combination of those two elements makes our offering very different from anything else on the market and – with a bit of luck – that uniqueness will be a catalyst for wider adoption among players.
Q: Your games are seen as being well-suited for the LatAm market, where players prefer quick content. How are you adapting your releases to cater to these regional preferences, and what steps are you taking to gather feedback from players in these and other regions?
Bitblox is already working with a local partner, so we’ve been able to draw on plenty of regional knowledge in terms of what operators want and – more importantly – how players in each market might engage with our games.
From the feedback we’ve had from them, I personally believe our 3 in a Row title has all the right ingredients to become a big success in the LatAm market. Given we know the majority of LatAm countries are sports crazy and online casino is also starting to gain traction in the region, the fact that this game combines a mechanic that’s similar to placing an accumulator bet with a UI that looks like an online slot machine means it should hold considerable appeal for both audiences.
Q: Bitblox’s games seem to cater to a specific type of player, particularly those who are younger, tech-savvy, and familiar with crypto. Can you elaborate on your ideal target audience and what characteristics or behaviours make them the perfect fit for your crypto prediction games? How does this audience differ from the traditional iGaming player?
I think it’s important to note that while our games have certainly been designed to appeal to the audience that you mention, the fact that they’re accessible, easy-to-use and require no prior understanding of crypto markets means that they also cater to traditional casino players as well.
In terms of what makes them particularly attractive to younger, tech-savvy players, I think the fact they’re so fast-paced and can offer rewards every few seconds definitely resonates with an audience that has grown up playing mobile games and consuming short reels on social media. Add to that the fact that they can potentially use their knowledge of the markets to their advantage and I think it’s a combination that really holds a lot of appeal to players who want to have a more active role in determining the betting outcome, rather than merely being a passenger to RNG.
Q: With Bitblox’s focus on Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, how do you address the challenges of educating players who might be unfamiliar with these technologies while still providing an exciting gaming experience?
I think first and foremost, all our games have been designed from a standpoint of providing an exciting gaming experience, no matter what the user’s understanding of cryptocurrencies might be. As I’ve said before, having prior knowledge of the Bitcoin market is not a prerequisite to playing – or winning – any of our games, and that has been a key part of how we’ve marketed ourselves.
What our games do provide, however, is a gateway for players who are unfamiliar with cryptocurrencies or perhaps have only a fleeting understanding of the markets to learn more about the topic. By piquing their curiosity through our innovative and rewarding price prediction games, hopefully we’ll drive more users to do their own research on the subject, which should in turn help to remove some of the stigma surrounding crypto within the iGaming sector in future.
Q: Given the fast-paced nature of your ‘Turbo’ version of ‘Up or Down?’ what challenges did you face in its development, and how do you balance the need for speed with maintaining a quality user experience?
I wouldn’t say there were any major developmental challenges on the technical side of things. All we really had to do was move the game from a 60-second snapshot to a 20-second snapshot, so the original UI was largely unchanged. This meant players could still enjoy the same high-quality user experience found in the first game, only this time with more frequent opportunities to bet.
Q: What is your personal favourite game and why?
I have to say I’m a really big fan of BitSlap. From the name alone, you can see that we tried to do something a bit cheeky with the game and I really love how it all came together. Though it still uses the same price rise/fall mechanic as games like Up or Down?, the addition of fun characters who trade blows as the value of Bitcoin fluctuates really does make for an entertaining experience.
From an operator’s point of view, I also really like the fact that the game offers so much potential for personalisation and customisation going forward. As each platform can effectively chose and design their own characters to be put into the game, there’s real scope to include things like brand ambassadors, figures that are currently in the news or sports stars ahead of big upcoming events.
Q: Looking ahead to 2025 and beyond, what are your expectations for the future of crypto prediction games, and how does Bitblox plan to stay ahead of emerging trends in the iGaming industry?
I think we’ve already seen that there’s a real demand for crypto prediction games within the iGaming industry as they’re essentially filling a gap that no one has adequately addressed up until this point. By combining elements of skill and chance with designs and mechanics that bring the best of online casino and sportsbook together, I think Bitblox has essentially pioneered a product with huge cross-market appeal, and I expect that to grow as they become better known in future.
In terms of staying ahead of emerging trends, as the originators of this innovative new vertical, we’re obviously pretty plugged into both the iGaming and crypto industries, but we’ll continue listening to feedback from players and operators to further refine our product. On top of that, we’ll also pursue new partnership opportunities with any companies we feel can add something to the Bitblox brand.
