Back Mancala Gaming Talks Moltar’s Wrath & New Direction

As the online casino industry continues experimenting with more interactive gameplay formats, Mancala Gaming is pushing further into feature-driven and progression-based slot design. In this exclusive interview with LCB, Pantelis Spyrou, Head of Studio at Mancala Gaming, discusses the upcoming launch of Moltar’s Wrath, the studio’s approach to evolving slot mechanics, and how player expectations are changing across modern casino content. The conversation also covers Mancala Gaming’s expanded release schedule, Bonus Tools, progression systems, operator-focused features, and what partners and players can expect from the company throughout the rest of 2026.

  • Over the last six years, Mancala Gaming’s portfolio has expanded significantly across slots, crash, and instant games. The redesigned platform gives each game its own dedicated space with mechanics, features, and demo access. How much does transparency matter today when operators and players are checking out new games?

Transparency is very important today because both operators and players want to understand a game before they spend time on it or add it to their platform. Players now compare mechanics, volatility, features, and game styles between many providers, so clear information became very important for everyone.

That is why we redesigned our platform and gave every game its own space with game details, feature explanations, and demo access. For operators, this makes the evaluation process faster. For players, it helps build trust and lets them understand the game easier before they start playing.

  • Moltar’s Wrath, set to launch on July 21, feels like a very different and unique slot experience from the first moment you see it. The way the game constantly changes through its many features and the spiral layout makes it feel more active and less repetitive than the standard reel-based format players usually expect. Was that one of the main goals during development, to create something that feels noticeably different from the typical slot experience players see today?

Yes, this was definitely one of the main goals during development. We wanted Moltar’s Wrath to feel different from the first moment the player opens the game. Today many slot games look and play very similar, so we tried to create a more active experience with constant movement, evolving mechanics, and gameplay that changes during the session.

The spiral layout was a very important part of this idea because it changes how players follow the action on the screen. Together with the cascade system, character abilities, feature combinations, and the flaming eye symbol moving through the spiral toward the bonus game, the action feels much more alive compared to a traditional reel setup. We also designed the bonus game to feel closer to a small RPG battle and not just another standard free spins mode.

Another important goal for us was to bring some inspiration from the casual game industry and RPG games. We wanted even players without a lot of slot experience to open the game and feel some familiarity with the visuals, progression, and flow of the game. The idea was to make it easier to understand, more interactive, and more exciting even for players who normally do not play classic video slots.

  • With so many features interacting during gameplay, from cascades and reshuffles to symbol effects and multipliers, how challenging was it to balance fast-paced action with gameplay clarity so players can still comfortably follow everything happening on the screen?

Yes, this was actually one of the biggest challenges during development. When you have many systems working together at the same time, it is very easy for the game to become too chaotic or difficult to follow. From the beginning, we spent a lot of time balancing the speed of the action with visual clarity, so players can still understand what is happening on the screen.

We solved this in several ways. We created clear visual priorities for the mechanics, strong animation timing, controlled pacing between events, and very readable effects for symbols and character actions. Even when many things happen during one spin, the player can still follow the progression step by step without feeling lost.

Another important part was making the game feel natural for players coming from casual games and RPG games. We wanted the action to feel exciting and dynamic, but also easy to read and comfortable to understand, even for players that are not very familiar with complex slot mechanics.

  • In many slots, the main character is mostly there for visual identity, but in Moltar’s Wrath, Moltar actually affects the gameplay itself. Why was it important for you to make the game’s mascot feel directly connected to the action on screen?

For us, it was very important that Moltar feels like part of the game and not only a visual decoration on the screen. In many slot games, the main character is there mostly for branding, but we wanted players to feel that Moltar is actually reacting and participating during the action.

That is why we connected him directly to the cascade system and feature progression. As the game evolves, Moltar becomes more active and starts affecting the grid with his abilities. This creates a stronger connection between the player, the character, and the gameplay itself. It also helps the game feel more alive and closer to the style of RPG and casual games where characters are part of the actual experience.

  • The Character Progress Bar feels like one of the defining mechanics in Moltar’s Wrath because the gameplay keeps building toward Moltar reacting in different ways. How did the idea for that progression system come about?

The idea came from our goal to make every spin feel like it is building toward something bigger. We did not want cascades to feel only like repeated wins, so we created the Character Progress Bar to give players a sense of progression and anticipation during the gameplay.

As players trigger more cascades, Moltar becomes more active and unlocks stronger reactions on the grid. This creates more excitement because players are not only waiting for wins, but also waiting to see how the character will react next. The system also helped us connect the gameplay more closely with the RPG-style feeling we wanted for the game.

  • The Shop system gives players direct control over activating certain features instead of waiting for them naturally. Do you think players today enjoy having more influence over how a session plays out?

Let’s be honest, every player wants to press the spin button and become a millionaire instantly. Of course, this is impossible, however we at Mancala Gaming believe that players still want to feel more involved and connected with the gameplay.

With the Shop system, the goal was not to remove randomness or make the game easier, but to give players more freedom in how they want to enjoy the session. Some players prefer to wait for features naturally, while others enjoy activating certain mechanics and creating a different gameplay flow. We wanted to offer this flexibility in a balanced and simple way, while still keeping the core identity and progression feeling of Moltar’s Wrath.

  • Do you think games like Moltar’s Wrath represent a broader direction where slot gameplay is becoming more interactive and less dependent on traditional reel formats? And from what you’re seeing, do modern players actually want experiences that feel more dynamic and constantly evolving compared to classic-style slots?

I have participated in many iGaming conferences, and one question always comes up: should the industry take a step forward and create new gameplay experiences for the Gen Z market, or should we continue following the same approaches that have existed since the 90’s?

Of course, classic reel slots will always have their audience, and they are a very important part of the industry. But at the same time, modern players are growing up with mobile games, RPG games, casual games, progression systems, and constant interaction. Their expectations are different today, especially when it comes to pacing and visual engagement.

With Moltar’s Wrath, we wanted to explore this direction by creating a game that feels more dynamic and alive through cascades, character reactions, progression systems, and evolving gameplay flow. From what we see, many players enjoy experiences where the game constantly changes, giving them the feeling that something exciting can happen at any moment.

  • If you had to describe Moltar’s Wrath in one sentence to players who have never seen a spiral-grid slot before, what would you say?

I would probably describe Moltar’s Wrath as a Video Slot – Feature-Driven fantasy action experience, where the gameplay constantly evolves through a spiral game world, character powers, cascading mechanics, and RPG-style progression instead of traditional static reels.

  • You’ve doubled your release schedule from two to four games a month, which is a huge shift. How do you keep that pace from affecting creativity or game quality, especially at a time when players are becoming harder to surprise?

Of course, increasing the release schedule is always a challenge, especially today when players have so many choices, and it becomes harder and harder to surprise them.
For us, the solution is not simply producing more games, but building a stronger production structure and giving teams enough creative freedom to experiment with new ideas and mechanics.

At Mancala Gaming, we try to keep a balance between production efficiency and creativity. Some games focus more on classic experiences, while others, like Moltar’s Wrath, FREAK MACHINE, ROCKETRUN the M.A.N.K. – Aliens Protocol, allow us to explore more experimental and feature-driven directions. We believe quality is not only about graphics or quantity of mechanics, but about creating games that players can remember and feel different when they play them.

Another very important part for us is that everything is created fully in-house, from the initial game idea and concept phase until the final released product. This gives us much better control over quality, creativity, and the final player experience.

  • Mancala Gaming now offers several automated Bonus Tools tied to gameplay triggers. What originally pushed the company to invest more heavily in this side of player engagement?

For us it started with a very practical observation: operators needed more than “more games”. They needed tools they could actually use to influence retention without adding operational friction. That’s why we built Bonus Tools as configurable, trigger-based features that activate during gameplay and can be managed directly from the back office.

The bigger driver was always long-term value: tools that help partners run smarter campaigns, save time, and lift GGR in a controlled way, not by simply increasing bonus pressure.

And philosophically, we believe retention comes from transparent mechanics and repeatable value, not short-term gimmicks.

  • You recently introduced the Progress Bar feature in your slots to make bonus progression more visible to players. What sparked the idea behind it?

The idea came from a simple principle: players stay longer when they understand what they’re building toward. We wanted to make progression clearer, more readable, and more rewarding moment to moment. That’s why we introduced Progression Tools, designed to make bonus mechanics more transparent and support retention through clearer progression systems.

You can see this thinking applied in titles like Freak Machine, where the progress bar and multiplier growth create momentum across spins and make the “next step” feel tangible.

  • Finally, after launching the new website and identity, what should partners and players expect next from Mancala Gaming during the rest of 2026?

The new website and visual identity are more than a redesign. They reflect our growth and make it easier for partners to evaluate the portfolio, tools, and mechanics faster, with clearer product information and a more structured presentation.

From here, expect a continued push on new slot mechanics and hybrid formats, plus further expansion of our Bonus Tools and progression layer.

On the rollout side, we’re also preparing a Spanish-language version of the site to better support LATAM markets, alongside ongoing improvements that support faster integration and partner decision-making.
