Kitsune Studios is preparing to release The Library Overdue, a follow-up to its 2025 debut title, The Library. The Manchester-based studio will launch the new slot on 19 August through Hacksaw Gaming’s OpenRGS network, returning to the original game’s library setting with a darker horror theme.
The sequel uses a 5x4 grid and Win Ways, while retaining Hacksaw Gaming’s Stackways™ mechanic. When a Stackways™ symbol lands, it can fill a reel with paying symbols. During the bonus rounds, reels can reach as many as 20 Stackways™. Depending on the symbols present, the game determines the stacked symbol according to the longest available winning combination when the Stackways™ symbol activates.
The new title adds the Stackways™ Booster symbol, which can increase the minimum Stackways™ count by as many as 10 on each reel. The feature is available only during the two free-spin bonuses, Stack the Shelves Spins and Overdue Spins. Both features can award a maximum win of 10,000x the bet.
New Mechanics Reshape The Bonus Rounds
Stack the Shelves Spins begins when three Scatter symbols land, awarding 10 free spins. Special Symbols can expand into winning stacks, while Stackways™ and Stackways™ Booster symbols can increase reel heights. The feature can also award additional spins when Scatters appear again. Four Scatters upgrade the bonus to Overdue Spins and add four free spins.
Overdue Spins can also start directly from the base game when four FS Scatters land together. It awards 10 free spins and retains the core mechanics of the first bonus. Its key difference concerns Special symbol expansions: they do not reset increases created by Stackways™ Booster symbols. Players can also receive two extra spins from two FS Scatters or four extra spins from three FS Scatters during the feature.
The game carries a very high volatility rating and includes Bonus Buy and FeatureSpins™ options where permitted. Kitsune has also prepared the release for more than 20 languages and 80 currencies.
Kitsune Marks Growth With Its Second Title
The release comes as Kitsune Studios approaches its second anniversary. The company has grown from its initial game into a multi-title studio and a flagship partner on Hacksaw Gaming’s OpenRGS platform, with its catalogue distributed across regulated markets worldwide.

The new game changes the original library into a haunted setting featuring cursed books, living shadows and twisted authors. Its expanded mechanics give the sequel a larger role for reel growth during its bonus features while preserving the central Stackways™ concept of the first release.

The Stackways™ Booster seems fun, especially since its increases can carry through Overdue Spins. That gives the second bonus a noticeably different feel from the first one.
