Michigan Shuts Down Four Illegal Online Casinos Targeting State Residents

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has taken action against four unauthorized online gambling platforms operated by offshore company Tech Zone, Inc., ordering them to stop serving players in the state.

The targeted brands—Betty Wins, Orbit Spins, Pacific Spins Casino, and Yabby Casino - are all run by Tech Zone, which is registered in the Union of Comoros. These sites were found to be offering internet gambling to Michigan residents without proper authorization, in violation of multiple state laws, including the Lawful Internet Gaming Act and sections of the Michigan Penal Code.

MGCB Reinforces State Gambling Laws

According to the MGCB, none of the four platforms had received the required licensure to operate legally within Michigan. Under state law, all online gaming and sports betting must be conducted through MGCB-licensed operators to ensure compliance, fairness, and consumer protections.

“These offshore operators lure players with flashy ads and promises of big winnings, but in reality, they put consumers at serious financial and personal risk,” said Henry Williams, Executive Director of the MGCB. “We will continue to take strong action against unlicensed sites to ensure gambling in Michigan is legal, fair, and secure.”

The cease-and-desist letters require the sites to immediately halt operations targeting Michigan residents. Should they fail to comply, the MGCB could pursue additional enforcement actions in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Attorney General.

Player Risks with Unlicensed Platforms

The MGCB emphasized the dangers associated with illegal gambling websites, citing the absence of independent game testing, lack of dispute resolution channels, and exposure to threats like identity theft and financial fraud. These platforms operate outside of Michigan’s regulatory oversight, leaving players with no guarantees regarding the fairness or safety of the games they play.

This enforcement action follows a similar crackdown in August, when the MGCB ordered 15 additional illegal operators to stop offering their services in the state. That list included well-known names such as 7 Bit Casino, Liberty Slots Casino, and Vegas2Web Casino.

“These unlawful operators try to present themselves as legitimate entertainment options, but they offer zero player protections, no accountability, and a real risk to consumers,” said Williams. “Our message is simple: If you want to offer gambling in Michigan, follow the law or we will stop you.”

Empowering Michiganders to Play Smart

As part of its ongoing efforts to educate the public, the MGCB is expanding its “Play It Smart, Michigan” initiative. This campaign aims to help residents distinguish between legal and illegal gambling websites, and to encourage informed choices when engaging in online gaming.

The MGCB’s website now features a dedicated “Legal vs. Illegal Gaming” page, which outlines how to verify whether a site is licensed. It also highlights common tactics used by rogue operators, such as misleading advertisements or familiar branding meant to instill false trust.

“Illegal operators may use familiar branding or social media ads to appear trustworthy,” Williams added. “But if the site isn’t licensed by the MGCB, it isn’t safe. We encourage all players to check before they bet.”

To assist in spreading the message, the MGCB has also released educational content across its social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), helping residents recognize red flags and stay informed.
