Back Octoplay Gains Conditional Approval for Alberta

Octoplay has taken another step in its North American expansion after receiving conditional licenceapproval from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Commission (AGLC). The approval allows the game developer to prepare its portfolio for launch with licensed operators once Alberta opens its regulated online gaming market in July.

The move extends the company's presence in Canada beyond Ontario, where its games are already available through BetMGM and PokerStars. It also follows Octoplay's recent entry into the United States, where the supplier debuted in New Jersey before expanding across four tier-one operators in Michigan.

Alberta Becomes Next Focus for Canadian Expansion

The opening of Alberta's regulated market has attracted attention across the industry, with suppliers preparing to establish partnerships ahead of launch. Octoplay said its existing performance in Ontario and its recent progress in the US provide a strong base for entering the province.

Ralitsa Georgieva, CEO at Octoplay, said: "Alberta is one of the most strategic market openings on our 2026 roadmap. Entering it with the performance data we've built in Ontario, New Jersey, and Michigan gives us a strong foundation to be one of the first suppliers to partner with local tier-one operators as soon as the market opens."

The company expects to begin supplying games to leading operators shortly after Alberta's regulated market officially opens, continuing the growth it has recorded across North America during 2025 and 2026.

Compliance Process Supports New Market Entry

Octoplay credited its regulatory preparation for helping secure conditional approval from the AGLC. The company said it worked closely with the regulator throughout the licensing process while ensuring its systems met the required technical and compliance standards.

Martina Borg Stevens, Chief Legal Officer at Octoplay, commented: "We've worked closely with the AGLC throughout the licensing process, and clearing the conditional stage reflects the strength of our compliance infrastructure."

She added: "Our team has built a process that allows us to enter new regulated jurisdictions efficiently without compromising on the technical standards each regulator requires."

The approval represents another addition to the supplier's list of licensed jurisdictions as it continues to pursue regulated markets.

Regulated Presence Continues to Grow

Once Alberta begins operations, Octoplay plans to move quickly with local operator integrations. The company said the province fits into its broader strategy of expanding in regulated markets while building on the momentum established in Ontario and the United States.

The Alberta approval increases the company's regulated footprint, which already spans 17 operational markets. Those jurisdictions include the United Kingdom, New Jersey, Michigan, Ontario, Italy, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Greece, Romania, Malta, Slovakia, Finland, Brazil and Georgia.

By adding Alberta to that network, Octoplay strengthens its position in Canada while extending a wider international presence across Europe and North America. The company expects the province's market launch in July to provide its next opportunity for expansion as it continues supplying games in regulated jurisdictions.
