Back Play’n GO Takes Center Stage in Global Gambling Policy Dialogues

Play’n GO, a leader in online gaming content, has been invited to a groundbreaking international forum where it will play a key role in developing global gambling policy. Beginning this week at the G7 Leaders Summit in Calgary, Alberta, the company is the sole software provider participating in the newly established Global Forum on Responsible Gaming and Gambling Policy.

This forum is the first in a three-part initiative that will see Play’n GO contribute to strategic discussions at the G7, G20, and United Nations General Assembly later this year.

Responsible Play at the Heart of Global Policy Forums

The series kicks off on June 13 at the G7 Summit, where Shawn Fluharty, Play’n GO’s Head of Government Affairs, will open and lead a session. He will collaborate directly with an array of high-profile attendees — including lawmakers, regulators, neuroscientists, and public health specialists — to explore the relationship between gambling and mental wellness, and how that should influence global regulatory frameworks.

Fluharty highlighted the importance of their involvement, stating: “Being the only online gaming supplier at the G7, G20, and UN policy forums carries a responsibility to bring real-world insight into high-level discussions. Working hand-in-hand with lawmakers, regulators, and public-health experts makes it possible to craft global standards that protect players, eliminate unlicensed risks, and foster sustainable innovation across regulated markets, something Play’n GO is fully committed to.”

He also emphasized the broader significance of the initiative: “Positioning responsible gaming at the world’s premier policy forums is vital to ensuring regulation keeps pace with rapid innovation and effectively protects consumers.”

Pioneering a Safer Industry Through Proactive Measures

Play’n GO’s presence at these international events reinforces its longstanding leadership in promoting responsible gaming practices. The company has taken several pioneering steps, including becoming the first to ban bonus buy features from its games — a move that predated regulatory action from bodies such as the UK Gambling Commission and the Netherlands' Kansspelautoriteit (KSA).

Earlier this year, CEO Johan Törnqvist reaffirmed the company’s commitment to regulated markets by announcing that Play’n GO would not supply games to sweepstakes casinos. He made the company’s position clear, stating: “Sweepstakes casinos do not operate inside a regulated framework and that’s not something we support. Our commitment to regulated markets is absolute.”

Fluharty echoed these sentiments, warning of the broader implications: “Sweepstakes casinos threaten the regulated market model that many of us in the industry have worked so hard to achieve, which protects players first and foremost.” He added that suppliers aligned with such platforms may find themselves locked out of future regulated markets.

Shaping the Future of Gambling Regulation

Play’n GO’s leadership role in these international forums is expected to result in a set of recommendations that will inform future global standards on gambling. These proposals will be formally submitted through appropriate policy channels to help guide national and international approaches to public health and innovation in the gaming industry.
