The NBA free agency period just began on Sunday, June 30th, 2019 at 6 p.m. ET. There have been an abundance of players moving all over the place. In fact, the first day of the 2019 NBA free agency calendar has been the craziest and most interesting day in terms of changing the landscape of professional basketball in the United States.
The Brooklyn Nets have made the biggest splash in this year’s free agency frenzy by agreeing to sign 3 big time superstar players. The Nets have agreed to terms to sign Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and DeAndre Jordan.
Other Key Moves for the Brooklyn Nets:
Brooklyn is reportedly going to sign and trade All Star guard, D’Angelo Russell, to the Golden State Warriors. This deal is a 4 year $117 million maximum contract. They will also sign veteran point guard, Garrett Temple, to a 2 year $10 million contract. All of the 5 above mentioned deals are expected to be finalized and completed on July 6th, 2019 when the NBA's signing moratorium ends.
Kevin Durant:
The Nets have agreed to sign the 2-time NBA Finals MVP, Durant, to a 4 year worth up to $164 million contract. He will most likely miss all of the 2019 – 2020 NBA season due to recovering from a torn Achilles tendon that he suffered playing against the Toronto Raptors in the 2019 NBA Finals .
Even if Durant is never himself again athletically, he still provides the Nets with outstanding offensive production. The ability of the 7 foot forward to shoot over the competition and hit a high percentage of his field goals and three-point shots will prove to be highly valuable to his new team. He very well may be able to return to be the same player he was before the injury which is only the best basketball player in the world.
I am truly surprised that the struggling New York Knicks were not willing to offer Durant a max deal as they have been unable to sign very many free agents and no big name caliber players. It seems as if the Knicks will continue to be one of the worst teams in the NBA for at least the foreseeable future.
“Durant helped lead Golden State to NBA titles in 2017 and '18, winning Finals MVP both times,” says Adrian Wojnarowski. “He's a 10-time All-Star (and was named All-Star Game MVP in 2012 and '19) and six-time first-team All-NBA honoree, and he also won Rookie of the Year in 2007-08 and league MVP in 2013-14. He has led the NBA in scoring four times, and his current 27 points per game average ranks sixth all time.”

Kyrie Irving:
The former Cleveland Cavalier and Boston Celtic’s star player, Kyrie Irving, also got a 4 year deal from the Brooklyn Nets worth up to $141 million. Irving brings great ball handling, passing, and scoring as one of the league’s best point guards.
He has been known to be unhappy with past situations, but this is the first time that he has had the opportunity to choose where he would like to play. Kyrie is from New Jersey, and it seems like he is very happy to be playing close to home with the Brooklyn Nets. He seems even happier to choose who is he is going to play with there in Durant and Jordan.

This team should be winning championships in the near future. Once KD returns they will be a powerhouse team in the Eastern Conference.
